After the first class, we had a break, and I headed straight to the cafeteria. After all, I was yet to eat, and also, the cafeteria was the set piece for the first event of the game.
Now, this event wasn't major, but it built up to a major event that basically set the flow of the academy in the following months.
I had to observe it and see how it went. Andrew came along, since he had not had anything to eat as well. The cafeteria was a large room, with chairs set in a circular manner and a bench around them.
The academy also had two types of food, food bought by points and the standard food. To get points, we would firstly need our ID cards, which would be delivered to our rooms by the end of today.
Every academic breakthrough or good thing we did would be rewarded with a certain amount of points, and those points were considered currency.
For now, I didn't have any, similar to all first years, so we had to settle with what we were given for free. It was a plate of some sort of potato mash and steak, pretty decent to be honest, but that was beside the point.
I sat down at a table with Andrew, and while we ate, I decided to ask him.
"Hey, Andrew, what type of mage are you?" I asked casually, expecting a simple elemental answer.
Now don't get me wrong, I got that, but I also got extra.
"Well, I'm a flame mage, and also a spirit mage." He said with a soft innocent smile, but that smile made me want to slam my face into the table.
He was a special mage, yup. There was only one thing that could help me now, and that was to know his aptitude for his affinities.
"So how good are you with them?" I asked, hoping he would say average, but this pompous kid just had to go ahead and shit on that dream.
"I'll say I'm pretty good with flame magic and spirit magic. For instance, I was capable of two-star magic at ten, though I was stopped because my body wasn't ready for such a level of magic yet."
He had on an innocent face as he spoke all of this, and it made my stomach churn. This dude was a genius. But that led me to wonder, what could possibly be the skill level of the person he loved to make it that his level of skill still fell short?
This academy was filled with monsters. I had a lot of catching up to do, but I wouldn't allow that to weigh me down. Why? Because I was the man that did the impossible and went against insurmountable odds.
I never shied at the face of a challenge, and I would be damned if I started now, never. I took a bite of my food and began thinking about how to train and when,
Squeeeel!
The squealing of girls reached my ears, and I knew what that was immediately. I looked up. Standing there was Lance Everheart. He was surrounded by a ton of girls, each squirming around him.
There was a feeling inside me right now. I would normally call it jealousy, but it was far more advanced, it was simply despising this dude for being the center of attention.
Did I want to be there? Hell no, I'm not built for that type of attention. But did I still hate that he was getting it? Of course, that was without a doubt.
I looked at Lance. He wasn't paying attention to the girls. Nope, he was trying to get to Angela, but she was ignoring him.
The thing was, he had a thing for Angela, always did. They knew each other from childhood, and now he wanted to talk to her, but it turned into a full-blown issue with the girls around him.
I feel like these extra characters were written with one brain cell. Have some self-respect at least. Lance ignored them and tried to reach for her.
"Angela," he called out. She stopped in her steps and turned to look at him.
The beginning of the event.
She looked at him. "What do you want?" she asked, her eyes cold and detached. She didn't want to be here with all the eyes on her.
"Damn, I wish she could stare at me like that," a boy from a table close to me said. Puberty was a really messed-up thing. It was already breeding masochists.
"Angela, please, I just want to talk to you," Lance said. He took a step closer to her, but she stepped back, her eyes growing colder. It was clear she didn't want him, but he was acting dumb as a rock.
Now, was the reason I came here to watch some stupid love back and forth? No, it was because of the future sitting in the corner of the room and watching the scene.
She was a girl. She sat down at the edge, her black messy hair obstructing her face. She gave off a dark aura.
She was one of the seven heroines. Her name was Anna, and as for the reason she was sitting there like that, it was because she was in love with none other than Lance.
Now, why would such a lady have a thing for Lance? Well, other girls liked him too, but the way she liked him was something else. It was downright obsessive, and as for the reason, it was something really simple yet important.
The reason I'm here today is to study her, because she is the key to the first major event and also the first heroine to die.
Her death isn't near yet, but all the events lead to it, and I'm going to work to stop it all. I'll ensure that I save Anna.
