Chapter 4 - The Danger in the Darkness

Night is already beginning to fall. Kael encountered a few powerful monsters along the way, but thanks to his Mana Sight, he noticed them all beforehand and escaped. The gigantic trees are blocking the setting sunlight, making the forest pitch black. Advancing further into the forest now would be nothing short of suicide. The only option is to set up camp in a suitable spot. Since Kael can easily guess the dangers of camping on the ground, he climbs up one of the gigantic trees. He is approximately fifty-five meters above the ground, and the moonlight has begun to illuminate the surroundings.

Kael wants to take advantage of this opportunity to examine his surroundings, but there is nothing visible. He lies on his back on one of the gigantic branches of the tree and begins to watch the moon. After a few minutes pass, he notices a shadow pass in front of the moon. This shadow was visible for only a millisecond and then quickly passed, disappearing entirely. This causes Kael to feel uneasy, and he gets to his feet.

Although he waited for a few minutes while standing, seeing that nothing happened, he intended to lie down again. Just as he was about to settle, he instinctively threw himself onto a neighboring branch of the tree. While Kael was still mid-air, before reaching the other branch, the half-meter-thick branch he had just been resting on shattered. Kael, breathless, could not make sense of what had occurred, but the dread inside him continued to persist. Moments ago, he had been sitting calmly, yet now he was under attack by an enemy he could neither see nor sense.

Kael leaps with all his strength to another branch, and just like before, the branch he was standing on shatters. Kael realizes that the top of the tree is not safe and begins to climb down with all his might. As soon as he is completely on the ground, he notices a gigantic owl, one meter tall, watching him from the tree he was just on. Looking at the owl with his Aura Sight, he realizes that the owl is many times stronger than the deer he first encountered, and in fact, the deer is not even a threat to the owl. Currently, the only thing preventing the owl from killing Kael is the dense, gigantic branches of the trees—at least that is what Kael thinks, until he notices a group of at least that is what Kael thinks, until he notices a group of about eight wolves by sensing their auras. It is then that he realizes the owl didn't come down due to the dense branches, but to avoid an unnecessary fight with the wolves. The wolves are on the ground, and the owl is waiting for him in the tree; there is nowhere left to run.

The wolves slowly approach, encircling Kael. The distance between them has now dropped to five to ten meters. Suddenly, the wolf on Kael's left makes a feint as if to leap at him, but the real attack comes from behind. Using his reflexes at the last moment, he manages to evade the strike, but he can do nothing against the attack coming from the other side. The claw strike throws Kael against the tree with incredible speed. He is losing an unbelievable amount of blood. He tries to lift his head one last time to look at the sky, but he cannot even see the sky.

Just as he is about to completely give up, he feels a great abnormality in his body. The aura spreading through his body suddenly begins to strengthen and pour outwards. The color of his eyes and hair turns navy blue again. Frightened by the spreading aura, the owl flees, and the wolves nervously begin to retreat; a few of the weaker ones have already abandoned the pack and run away. The remaining five wolves leap at Kael with all their strength, but the instant they take a step, they are torn into millions of tiny pieces, literally turning into mince meat. Even the wolves that had abandoned the pack and fled could not escape death, sharing the same fate as the others. The owl, which was flying and had already distanced itself by five kilometers, exploded as if detonated, scattering blood and flesh everywhere. The deaths were not limited to them; all living beings within a three-kilometer radius of Kael died, while others fled.

Kael has already lost consciousness and is standing upright in a state of stupor. Finally, he too collapses to the ground.
