Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Using Her Own Son's Life for Moral Blackmail? This Woman's Got Some Nerve!

"Ha ha!"

The woman sneered, "Miss one vaccine shot, will someone die or what?"

"Son, let's go! Mom will take you to get some pickled vegetables! I've never seen rabies that couldn't be cured by some pickled vegetables!"

The woman said this and turned to pull the boy sitting on the examination bed.

"What tetanus, rabies vaccine!"

"I think your school's clinic is just a black-hearted workshop!"

The boy stumbled, pulled by his own mother.

Hearing his mother's ignorant talk, the boy turned to Chen Mu with an apologetic look, "Dr. Chen, I'm sorry..."

He hadn't finished speaking before his mother forcibly dragged him out of the school clinic.

The live broadcast camera clearly recorded it.

As the boy was being led out of the clinic by his mother, his newly treated wound hit the doorframe of the clinic due to the mother's excessive pulling.

Instantly.

Blood started to seep again!

Chen Mu was still watching the direction in which the boy and his mother left.

Suddenly.

Chen Mu felt someone tugging on his sleeve.

He turned his head to see Su Bingbing looking at him with hesitation.

"Dr. Chen..."

"Actually, that kid's mother probably just can't bear the cost of the vaccine."

"Vaccinations aren't really that expensive, how about I cover this cost? It'll be my good deed."

No sooner had Su Bingbing finished speaking.

The man standing in front of him showed a "just as I thought" expression.

"Remember what I told you earlier."

What did he say before?

Su Bingbing racked his brain, hearing the guy with the camera softly remind him from behind: "Don't pay for others."

Outside the school clinic.

The injured boy saw his mother twisting her body, eavesdropping at the clinic's door.

The boy frowned slightly, "Mom, aren't you taking me to get pickled vegetables?"

"Shush!" The woman glared at him fiercely, continued to eavesdrop at the door, but heard nothing she wanted to.

She leaned, frowning, against the clinic door, muttering softly.

"Tsk! Your school's doctor and that female reporter just now, they're all no good."

"They have such good jobs, earning high salaries, yet when they see students who can't afford the rabies vaccine, no one stands up to pay..."

"No, Mom's thinking about it, you need to get that rabies vaccine, and whatever tetanus, for your safety."

The woman rubbed her chin, her eyes darting around, scheming in her head.

"Then why wait, Mom? Let's go to the community hospital now." The boy pulled his mother, trying to leave first.

But once again, he stumbled from his mother's tug.

The woman smiled, patting her son's hand, instructing, "Don't worry, son, I just wanted to ask how exactly that rabies vaccine is administered."

After saying that.

The woman gave her son no chance to ask further questions.

Without even knocking, she went straight back into the school clinic.

Su Bingbing was a bit bewildered seeing the woman come back.

At the moment she saw the woman, the first thought that crossed Su Bingbing's mind was.

This woman... could she be back to cause trouble?

But when Su Bingbing saw Chen Mu standing calmly, her initial panic inexplicably turned into peace.

"Student's parent, is there anything else?" Chen Mu wasn't surprised by the woman's return.

The woman rubbed her hands, forcing a flattering smile, "Doctor, I thought carefully after going out. Actually, you're the doctor; you definitely know more than common people like us."

"If you say my son not getting the rabies vaccine is life-threatening, then that has to be right!"

"So this rabies vaccine must be administered, it has to be!"

As she spoke, the woman carefully watched the expressions on Chen Mu's and Su Bingbing's faces.

Chen Mu saw it all.

But pretended as if he hadn't seen anything.

With a gentle smile, he said, "It's great that you've thought it through. If you don't trust the community hospital we recommended, you can look it up online."

"Generally speaking, both top-tier and community hospitals have rabies vaccines."

Seeing Chen Mu showing no indication of assistance.

The woman felt unsatisfied but begrudgingly held back.

She rubbed her hands, staring eagerly at Chen Mu, "Doctor, I understand the importance of vaccines now, but we do have difficulties."

"Getting those two vaccines, it comes to four figures."

"For an ordinary family, sending a kid to college is hard enough, we don't have that much money for the vaccine, you see..."

The woman rubbed her thumb and forefinger together.

Su Bingbing was dumbfounded.

"Goodness! I was wondering why her attitude changed suddenly, turns out she's fishing for someone to foot the bill!"

"Her own son needs a rabies vaccine, instead of saving him, she looks for a sucker first?"

"Dr. Chen's advice to me makes sense now, I finally understand..."

"There's no limit to what shameless people can do."

"..."

Faced with the woman's increasingly anxious gestures.

Chen Mu instantly put on a pained expression.

"Parent, come with me."

Seeing Chen Mu heading toward an iron cabinet in the clinic, the woman's eyes lit up.

She had seen it on TV.

Rich people keep money in those kinds of cabinets!

Under the woman's excited gaze, Chen Mu opened the cabinet door.

It was filled with instant noodles.

The woman pointed at the cabinet, raging, "This is what you wanted to show me?"

Chen Mu nodded matter-of-factly, "Yes, parent, this is my monthly ration. You say you can't afford a vaccine, but you shouldn't say that to a poor doctor like me who's almost unable to afford food..."

The woman's eyes shifted.

The doctor had mentioned that her son needed the vaccine within 24 hours.

This doctor didn't seem easy to manipulate.

Seeing Chen Mu reveal a cabinet full of instant noodles, Su Bingbing almost burst out laughing.

She hadn't expected Dr. Chen to come up with such a strategy with a student's parent.

If she hadn't seen Dr. Chen eating hotpot that morning, she might have believed his nonsense.

As Su Bingbing continued to watch the commotion.

She suddenly noticed the student's parent changing her expression, angrily storming towards her.

"You, with the camera following you, what are you, a reporter, an influencer, or a host?"

Su Bingbing glanced at the woman, confused, and answered, "We're making a show; I'm both a reporter and host for this program."

Hearing Su Bingbing's response, the woman nodded thoughtfully.

Then pointed at the cameraman behind Su Bingbing, "And the camera he's holding, is it live?"

Just as Su Bingbing nodded.

The woman suddenly lay on the ground, pulled off her hair tie, and started wailing: "Oh no, they're forcing me to death here, my son was bitten by a stray dog at the dorm, and no one cares!"

"He can't afford the rabies vaccine, he will die!"

"If my son dies, I won't live either!"

"Doctor, do you have a rope? Otherwise, I'll just hang myself right here!"
