Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: What Rabies Vaccine? I Think You're Just a Quack Trying to Rip Us Off!

As soon as the boy finished speaking.

The livestream audience nearly lost their minds.

「???」

「Wait, are rabies vaccines and pickles even remotely related things now?」

「If you trust what your mom says so much, why don't you just go have her treat you instead of coming to the school clinic to see a doctor?」

「Guys! I can't take it anymore, my hemorrhoids are acting up from anger. Is a rabies vaccine really something you can skimp on?」

「I think Dr. Chen has made it very clear. With current medical technology, rabies is untreatable. He's laid it out like that and still doesn't want the vaccine? I'm speechless...」

「...」

Ever since Chen Mu saw the boy step out to make a phone call,

he had a rough idea of what was happening.

But hearing the boy's words still made Chen Mu feel disgusted.

Back when he was still working in clinical settings, he had encountered ridiculous patient families like this.

After surgery, the doctor would clearly instruct the family that the patient shouldn't eat for a few hours.

Reiterating it over and over.

Yet the family never took the doctor's words to heart.

The family gave the patient candies, claiming that eating candy doesn't count as "eating".

In the end, the patient was sent away by the family's candies.

The family then turned around and blamed the hospital, arguing that it was the hospital's fault that the patient didn't survive.

He thought that leaving clinical work would mean not seeing such stupidly stubborn people anymore.

Unexpectedly...

Watching the boy in front of him still trying to persuade himself.

Chen Mu sighed softly.

Despite his inner grumblings.

As a doctor, especially as a school doctor.

He couldn't really ignore the student.

Chen Mu began treating the boy's wound, "Didn't you tell your mom it was a stray dog from the school that bit you? Stray dogs don't have owners. Whose pickle jar are they pulling pickles from?"

The boy suddenly understood, "Doctor, hold on dealing with this wound for a moment, I need to call my mom again."

"Wait!"

Seeing that he couldn't stop the boy, Chen Mu decided not to try, "When you call your mom, also mention that you need a tetanus shot for this wound."

"Got it, thanks for the reminder, Doctor!"

Just after disinfecting one of the wounds, the boy limped out of the clinic once more.

Several minutes later.

The boy returned.

His face a bit embarrassed, "Doctor, perhaps you should just help me treat the wound first."

"My mom said after she got my first call, she left home immediately, she'll be here in about ten more minutes."

Chen Mu nodded, "It's good for parents to communicate with a doctor face to face too."

"Let me treat your wound first then."

"The school clinic doesn't have anesthesia, so for some of the more severe wounds later on, it might hurt a bit, bear with it so I can clean them thoroughly for you."

As soon as Chen Mu finished speaking.

The school clinic was filled with the boy's pitiful cries.

Occasionally, some students passing by the school clinic downstairs would hear the mournful cries, shivering involuntarily, then quickly leaving the troublesome area.

Terrifying.

The clinic is too terrifying...

A few minutes later.

The boy, drenched in sweat, collapsed against the friend who had brought him.

Still groaning, although much quieter compared to his earlier pig-like squeals.

「Is this really reasonable, cleaning the wound without any anesthetics?」

「You don't think you can just buy anesthetics at a pharmacy, right? School clinics that can't perform surgeries don't have the qualifications to procure anesthetics.

Even if Dr. Chen wanted to give the boy anesthetics, they have to have it first...」

「Ouch! This guy doesn't even have the strength to scream anymore, this must hurt so much!»

「...」

"Ahhhh!!!"

"Ahhhh!!!"

As Chen Mu began treating the severest wounds, the boy's shouting became mournful again.

"Bang—"

The clinic door was suddenly flung open from the outside.

A middle-aged woman rushed in.

"My poor son!"

"Why must he suffer so much!"

"You quack, stay away from my son. If your medical skills were any good, my son wouldn't be in such pain!"

"So pitiful!"

As soon as she entered, the woman started shouting in the clinic.

The boy tugged at his mom, "Mom, Dr. Chen is very professional, he's debriding my wounds."

"Professional? Just cleaning wounds is professional?"

Chen Mu pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and said calmly, "Hello ma'am, I have a medical license, you can trust my level of professionalism."

"Since you're here now, let's talk about your son's wounds first."

Chen Mu acted as if he hadn't heard the woman's harsh words from before.

He pointed to the boy's smaller wounds, "I've treated these, no need for further treatment at the hospital."

"But..."

Chen Mu pointed to the boy's largest wounds, "These are a bit more serious, and you'll need to go to the hospital for suturing."

"And you need to go to a community hospital that can administer vaccines within 24 hours to get rabies and tetanus shots."

The woman let go of her son's hand.

In a haughty manner, she walked in front of Chen Mu, scrutinizing him.

「OMG! The classmate's mom has me shivering just from her appearance, she's definitely not easy to deal with!」

「Is she planning to give Dr. Chen trouble? No way! No way!»

「How can she not prioritize her own child's safety but only think about making trouble for others? Does a person like that deserve to be a mother?»

「...」

Being scrutinized by the woman's gaze.

Chen Mu showed no emotional fluctuations, he simply stayed calm, facing the woman in front of him.

The woman sneered, "Are you the quack who told my son to get a rabies vaccine? At first, you only mentioned a rabies vaccine, now you're adding tetanus, you're really trying to scam money!"

Chen Mu frowned, "You might be misunderstanding..."

"Misunderstanding! What misunderstanding!"

"When I was young, I was bitten by a dog too, but I just went and got a couple of pickles from the dog owner's house, no rabies shot needed, and look, I've lived just fine!"

Chen Mu remained indifferent, "You were probably lucky; the dog that bit you didn't have rabies."

"But..."

Chen Mu glanced at the boy's wounds and continued, "According to the boy, he was attacked by multiple stray dogs, we don't know if any of them had rabies."

"As a parent, if you really care about your son's life, you must get this rabies vaccine!"

"And also!"

Chen Mu pointed at some of the boy's torn-looking wounds, "The teeth of those stray dogs aren't clean; the tetanus shot is also very necessary."

"If you don't believe me, no problem, you can go to any top-tier hospital and ask a doctor if these vaccines are necessary!"
