Chapter 308 - Chapter 308: Evolve! Sirfetch’d VS Kanto’s “Proper” Charizard!

Primeape's Rage Fist was strong.

But Farfetch'd had seen an even stronger Rage Fist.

Compared to Annihilape's Rage Fist, what Primeape unleashed was basically child's play.

In Farfetch'd's pupils, two enormous dark-violet fists swelled closer and closer—yet the muscles beneath its wings didn't twitch in the slightest.

It gripped the leek with both hands in a reverse diagonal-slash stance, and the emerald sheen flowing along the stalk suddenly collapsed into a single thin line.

The instant those two Rage Fists entered its cutting range, Farfetch'd's webbed feet violently twisted against the ground.

That green line—condensed until it was almost white—burst sideways, carving a crescent vacuum scar through the air!

Bam—shk!

More than half of the Rage Fists were cleaved away midair. Farfetch'd's body punched through the shadowy remnants, then it took one explosive step and dashed right up in front of Primeape—bringing the leek down again in a heavy, brutal chop!

Primeape took the blow square on the crown of its head. Its round body was instantly sent flying, rolling over itself several times across the ground before it finally stopped.

"Pri… Prime…" (I… I can… keep… fighting…)

Primeape panted hard, trying to struggle back to its feet.

But its stamina was basically empty. It couldn't support itself enough to continue.

"Gaa." (You lost.)

Farfetch'd advanced slowly, the leek still wrapped in fading green light, its handle scraping sparks against the ground.

It stopped two meters in front of Primeape, and the leek's tip stabbed into the earth with a sharp clang, sinking three inches deep.

At this moment, Farfetch'd's sharp eyes reflected the Primeape lying there, unable to rise.

And what it said was simply the truth.

It might've only used three moves, but all three had hit vital points.

A fragile Pokémon like Primeape going down was completely normal.

If anything, seeing Primeape not drop instantly made Grey want to praise its toughness.

Unfortunately, no stamina meant no stamina.

And right now, Primeape also had no way to evolve straight into Annihilape.

All it could do was close its eyes—and fall asleep.

"Primeape is unable to battle. Challenger, please send out your next Pokémon."

Bumiao announced the result.

"Gaa-gaa!"

And right then, Farfetch'd's body erupted with a blinding glow!

[Oh? Something's off about Farfetch'd!]

[Wait—Farfetch'd can evolve?!]

[Kanto Farfetch'd can't—only the Galar Farfetch'd can evolve.]

[That out-of-towner Farfetch'd can evolve? Our Kanto Farfetch'd is the true orthodox one!]

[No idea if it'll look tast—ahem, positive energy only.]

With light flaring everywhere, Grey put on sunglasses. He also pulled out his phone and recorded the evolution.

After all, it was a moment worth remembering.

When his own Pokémon evolved before, he'd recorded those too.

Yeah—security footage still counts as recording.

Soon, the glow gradually faded away.

A duck Pokémon stood steadily in place, holding a leek sword and a leek shield.

The yellow-beaked duck Pokémon—Sirfetch'd!

Compared to its previous brownish coloring, the evolved Farfetch'd had whiter feathers. Aside from its calmer gaze, its beak also looked even brighter yellow.

Its height, though, didn't really change.

Whatever it was before, it was still the same now.

Ash blankly lifted his Pokédex and scanned Sirfetch'd.

Pokédex: "Unknown Pokémon. Data unavailable."

Ash: "…"

At that moment, Ash really wanted to curse.

This stupid Pokédex—what can it scan?!

"This is Sirfetch'd—a Fighting-type Pokémon. It's also the evolved form of Galarian Farfetch'd," Grey reminded him.

But speaking of Sirfetch'd…

Grey honestly felt that Sirfetch'd was the most representative Pokémon of Galar.

I mean, holding both a "sword" and a "shield"—it was hard not to think of that.

[Sirfetch'd… I'm so hungry…]

[Same, now I want afternoon tea.]

[I'm starving.]

After hearing Grey say the name "Sirfetch'd," a lot of viewers misheard it and started craving food.

"Alright, Ash—send out your next Pokémon."

While the post-evolution boost hadn't faded yet, Grey also wanted to see who Ash's next pick was.

If it was Aerodactyl, then Sirfetch'd should probably just forfeit right away.

That thing wasn't something Sirfetch'd could handle.

"Alright! Gym Leader Grey, my next Pokémon is coming out!"

The moment he brought up the next one, Ash's eyes lit up like he'd been reborn. He even almost covered his mouth and snickered.

You could tell—Ash was extremely confident in the next Pokémon he was sending out.

Even more confident than he'd been with Primeape.

"I choose you—Charizard!"

Ash whipped his right arm wildly and snapped the Poké Ball out. It burst open at the highest point with a thunderous crack.

"ROAAAR!!"

A crimson wave of flame bloomed like a lotus, and from the searing blaze came a dragon's roar that shook the sky.

Whoosh—whoosh…

With heavy wingbeats, an orange-red dragon silhouette tore through the curtain of fire.

[Pokémon: Charizard]

[Type: Fire / Flying]

[Level: 37]

[Ability: Blaze]

[Moves: omitted]

Charizard folded its wings and descended from above.

The instant it landed in the center of the field, the ground shuddered.

Scorching breath leaked between its teeth as it looked down on Sirfetch'd from above, locking on with cold intensity.

[Holy—Kanto's ultimate face card: Charizard!]

[My dragon baby! I love you, dragon baby!]

[If you're Kanto, you have to catch a Charizard!]

[Just passing through, but isn't Charizard the signature Pokémon of Leon—the undefeated champion who won Galar multiple times?]

[Does Leon know you're ruining his reputation with passersby? And besides—can Leon's Charizard beat Red's Charizard? Answer me!]

Charizard's entrance was genuinely intimidating.

As one of Kanto's starter Pokémon, it was worshiped for its cool, flashy appearance.

Even in Pallet Town a few years ago, people claimed everyone started with Charmander—some even said they could run into a Shiny Pidgey the moment they stepped outside.

Others claimed they'd found a Weedle in Viridian Forest that came with its own Mega Stone.

Of course, those were just rumors.

Once people actually explored like crazy, the stories fell apart on their own.

Right now, Kanto had two legendary figures known for using Charizard.

One was the battle legend Red, and the other was Elite Four Lance.

Both of their Charizard were powerful—Red's in particular was even said to be capable of fighting against "legendary" Pokémon.

And that "legendary" didn't mean the three legendary birds—it meant the "top-tier legendaries" spoken of across every region.

So when Ash sent out Charizard now, it was practically an announcement to everyone:

He, too, was a true-blue, orthodox Kanto Trainer!

"So that Charmeleon from back then has evolved into Charizard now, huh… Looks like you really remembered what I told you."

Grey nodded lightly and gave him a thumbs-up.
