Before I could try to answer his question, the door pushes open. "I didn't realize this room was occupied." The familiar voice says from the doorway.
Looking over towards the door I could immediately recognize Celeste was standing within the doorway. She seems to be shocked by my sudden appearance here as well.
"Actually you can come in. Maybe this will make it easier to deal with this whole situation." Eto replies casually.
"Then don't mind if I do." Celeste says as she enters the room.
She closes the door and takes a seat across from me at the table. I can definitely tell that this is a part of Eto's plan to try to get me to confess a power.
"So, what would you say is your power exactly?" Eto asks once more.
Ba-thump. Ba-thump. My heart feels like it is beating out of my chest.
What exactly am I supposed to say here... I don't want to say that I have help from this system. That would just put a weird target on my back and I don't want to put myself at risk.
He's also not stupid so there's no way for me to hide what I have completely. Should I give some sort of response with speed and strength like silver Neko?
That might be the more believable thing... Except he would question how I didn't dodge the attack.
~Speed, Strength, and Luck. He'll be surprised at first but it'll cover you here. ( ╹▽╹ ).
Yeah, that could work. I don't know why I'm panicking so much instead of trying to figure it out more rationally.
"I have some enhanced speed, strength, and even some luck as my powers." I manage to answer, the nervousness is killing me.
The whole situation makes it hard for me to try to stay calm when I'm in one of the worst possible positions. I have this top commission guy watching me closely and a beautiful girl staring at me...
"Huh, interesting. I have never heard of someone with luck involved with their powers before." Eto says with a bit of shock in his voice.
"Luck. I think it is quite interesting as well." Celeste agrees.
"Yeah... I am quite surprised by the powers I have as well. Just... Not really a hero kind of guy." I respond nervously.
I lean back in my seat as the two of them seem to talk a bit more privately about the whole thing. I didn't really expect them to discuss it like that since she just randomly joined in.
Watching someone like her talk with this commission guy is very nerve wracking for me... I'm not used to this kind of stuff. This is another reason why dealing with hero business would not be good for me in the slightest.
But the commission would be a lot better than any other organization out there if I'm being honest with myself here. The other organizations are definitely a lot more towards the popular side of rankings.
Something I'd prefer to stay as far away from as possible.
"You should join the hero commission." Celeste speaks up, breaking the silence of the room.
"I also think you could be a great addition to the hero commission. We'd have to do some proper training and go over procedures but this could be a great thing for you." Eto chimes in.
~The commission could be a great opportunity for you to grow stronger. Plus they will help the financial situation currently. (。・ω・。)ノ♡.
But this would push me towards the hero path a lot more than I want. I'm not trying to be a hero outright... I said I could maybe walk the fine line between them both.
Outright hero is not it for me.
~You just need to play the part, you don't have to be an actual hero. ୧(^ 〰 ^)୨.
That could work then. If I just play the part, I'll never have to stress over the real hero lifestyle. I'm just worried about what's going to happen down the road when I reach a difficult decision.
"Should I be taking that as a no?" Eto asks with a bit of a worried tone.
~Yes! Yes! Yes! Say yes. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻.
I'll do it, just stop shouting. Well I guess it isn't really shouting, but still.
"Yeah, I'll join the commission." I answer calmly.
"Perfect. We are always in need of new heroes so this is a win today." Eto says with a bit of an excited tone.
It was weird to see him kind of excited all of a sudden after he kept this serious tone the entire time we talked. The room didn't feel as chaotic anymore.
The stress seems to be disappearing along with the nervousness. My heart also didn't feel like it was going to break out of my chest anymore.
But both of them finally stood up and Eto picked up his notepad. "Are you ready for me to show you where you'll be staying?" Eto asks.
"I could show him instead. You have to prepare the testing station for him anyway." Celeste answers before I can.
"That would be better. Go ahead and show him around, we'll arrange a time for you to check on your brother again as well." Eto says with his serious tone once again.
"Alright." I reply.
I follow Celeste out of the room and down the hall towards an elevator. It was a pretty quiet walk to the elevator but I don't really have any problems with it being like this for now.
But the moment we enter the elevator I can feel the silence even heavier than before, other than the occasional ding of the elevator.
"Those who haven't been tested yet or who we don't know about for ranks stay down below. You will probably have a decent rank with the powers you possess." Celeste finally speaks up with some joy in her voice.
"Will it change where I stay after I get my rank?" I ask with a curious tone.
"Probably not for awhile." Celeste answers without any hesitation.
