Chapter 42 - 42

"Yeah, you feel he deserved it," Fred shot back, tone serious, "but that's not how the public will see it. No one knows who attacked Sabe yet. People might pin the blame on you. You're expected to be in the hospital right now, sitting by his bedside, crying or something. But it's Matthew that's there instead of you."

Fred paused, letting his next words sink in.

"Arrrgh!"

The painful scream tore through the underground basement, echoing off the cold concrete walls. The sound came from a man suspended from the ceiling beams.....tied so tightly his shoulders had long passed the point of dislocation. His head hung downward, legs bound upward, a dirty sack covering his face and muffling his ragged breaths.

Around him, the cries of other prisoners drifted from iron-bar cells lining the walls....weak, hopeless pleas swallowed by darkness.
