"Why are you so quiet?" Romeo asked suddenly, one brow arching as he studied Gabe's unreadable expression. "What's wrong? Regretting your life choices already?"
A slow, taunting smirk stretched across his lips.
"Well," he added lazily, rolling his shoulders, "it's too late for that now."
He turned his head toward the heavy velvet curtains near the window, his movements deliberate, almost theatrical.
"I hope you heard all that, lover boy," Romeo called out casually.
Gabe's heart skipped violently.
The curtains shifted, then a figure stepped out from behind the thick fabric, revealing himself fully.
Gabe's blood ran cold.
His pulse thundered in his ears as recognition struck him.
Alex.
Just what the fuck is he doing here? Gabe screamed inwardly. His throat went dry. His legs turned to jelly beneath him, and if not for the wall behind him, he would have collapsed right there.
