Chapter 139: Loose Ends
Theo walked into the house alone.
The noise came from the back. It was rushed and careless, then he heard a door slam. Something fell... Someone cursed under their breath.
Theo smiled.
"Of course," he muttered. "You always ran."
He followed the sound without hurry. He did not need to rush. Argash had never been smart when panic took over. He was loud and he was messy. He probably always believed speed could replace thinking.
Theo reached the back hall just as Argash tried to force open a side door.
It didn't open.
Argash turned around too late.
Theo stood there with his hands in his pockets, head tilted slightly, watching him struggle like it was a show he had already seen too many times.
Argash froze like a snowflake in the air.
For a second, his face went pale. Then anger rushed in to cover the fear.
"You," Argash spat. "You were supposed to be outside."
Theo laughed softly. It was not loud or angry. It was tiring.
