HARPER
My eyes cracked open, only to squeeze shut again as the bright light slicing through a break in the curtain stabbed into them like tiny fucking needles.
"Shit," I hissed under my breath. My head throbbed, and my stomach gave a protesting roll as I turned to my side. I stayed like that, willing the sudden nausea surging up my throat to subside.
Then…came the wet sensation. Something warm and slimy dragged across my cheek.
"What the hell," I croaked, barely lifting my hand to shove whatever it was away.
BARK
Loud. Sharp. Right in my ears.
My eyes flew open, and I jolted upright. I gripped my head as a fresh spike of pain shot through it. "Ow… for fuck—"
I gasped, slapping a hand over my mouth as the strong urge to throw up returned with vengeance. I couldn't hold it back this time. Ignoring the barking creature, I stumbled out of bed toward the bathroom, just in time to empty the contents of my stomach.
