Chapter 142 - [142] Work Study

In one of the large training halls in UA academy, both class 1-A and 1-B students had gathered, waiting to be addressed by the teachers.

"So how are you feeling now?" Aizawa asked, turning in the direction of a certain man.

The man scoffed angrily, pulling his blonde hair back as he watched the students.

"Fine enough…" Present mic answered.

Then his fists tightened by his sides. "I can't wait to get my hands on that man though." He spoke through gritted teeth, the vein on his forehead popping out.

Aizawa gave him a blank stare then sighed. "He's dead."

"W-WHAT? Who could have killed such a monster?"

Aizawa gave him a knowing look and Present mic gasped. "You don't mean…"

He nodded. "Yes, it was the vigilante."

A few weeks ago, there was an incident at a residential district in Musutafu.

Multiple people were said to be placed under the effects of a mind control quirk, by a villain who was yet to be identified up till this day.

There were a lot of things wrong with that incident.

Musutafu city followed something very similar to a roster, meaning most districts, especially areas with such high value individuals, were often protected.

Yet, on that day, no hero had been assigned to the area.

But that was not the worst part, the commission was keeping everything that happened under wraps, it was now confidential information.

Present mic frowned.

"That guy. What really is his goal? He was the reason the villains were unable to cause a disturbance at the sports festival wasn't he?"

"But at the same time, he attacked the hero commission recently!"

Aizawa's eyes narrowed slightly when he mentioned the commission, but he said nothing.

Present mic sighed and ran his hand through his face. "I don't get that guy…"

"Don't try to."

By now, principal Nezu had climbed up the podium to make the announcement to the students.

"…Starting next month, we will officially begin our work-study program!"

There was a wave of excited cheers from the student body. Now that they had earned their provisional licenses, they could finally get a taste of how it felt like to be on the field.

Aizawa watched them through half-closed eyes. 'This will be a valuable learning experience for them…'

There had been a lot of events that had shaken the students over, things that they were never exposed to as kids.

These conflicts had caused a fire to brew up in their hearts, pushing them to achieve exponential growth.

But among them, there were three students that stood out from rest.

Katsuki Bakugo, Shoto Todoroki, and Izuku Midoria.

'They are already at the level of pro heros…' Aizawa thought as he watched.

As much as he hated to think about it, he was sure that they were in for turbulent times ahead, and those three would be pioneers of a new age of heroes.

"Alright, get back to class." Aizawa announced once Nezu's announcement was over.

Deku's mind was a mess of thoughts.

The attack on the hero commission, the disappearances and various other incidents that had happened made his blood boil.

The world was already feeling the effects of All Might's injuries. He was meant to be his successor, and yet, he was still far away from fitting in his shoes.

'I wish I could help out already...' He thought.

That had been his state of mind earlier. Deku was itching to go into the field and help as many people as he could.

But now that he had heard Nezu's announcement…

"YESSSS!!"

Deku screamed, jumping to his feet as he fist bumped the air.

"You're really excited about the work study aren't you?" Ochacco leaned forward slightly, her hands clasped behind her back.

Deku nervously scratched his head. "I guess I went a little over board."

Then he smiled. "Yes, I can't wait—"

"HAHAHA—!" Loud laughter cut him off, followed by a brash voice. "This work study is my time to shine."

Bakugo smirked as he stared at his hands, small bursts of explosion sparkling in them.

"Just watch me, I'm going to take down anyone that crosses my path. Including that damn Midnight Vigilante!"

The students continued to chat with each other as they returned to their classrooms.

Meanwhile, in another part of UA, Nejire was stretching, a small smile on her face as she spoke with her friends..

"So the work study is starting, we can finally do hero work again, last year's work study was so fun!" Mirio grinned wide.

He had been discharged recently, and Nejire was happy to see him back to his old energetic self.

"I really hope I get assigned to a really cool hero!" Nejire beamed.

"Best jeanist, Hawks, Ouu— Ryukyu!! There are so many good options!"

Mirio laughed. "They all sound great."

Ring Ring!

Nejire pulled out her phone, only to be surprised by the caller.

She placed the phone on her ears, a smile still on her face as she spoke in an energetic tone.

"Oh, Kyle, what up!"

But the voice that came from the other side was rather grim.

"Nejire… I need your help!"

"Huh, is everything alright?"

•••

Kyle was seated in his brand new office, a cup of steaming hot coffee was placed on a coaster on his desk, a newspaper he never read was by the side and the monthly income report was opposite it.

He let out a quiet sigh, listening to the classic music that was seeping out from the café.

The past week had been more than hectic.

From Akiko's troubles, to the issue with the commission, he had not even had time to properly rest.

It has now been about a week since he turned Akiko, and she has been adapting rather well.

But Kyle told her to put off work until today.

Despite being perfectly well physically, she must have been drained mentally after her close brush with death.

Now that everything was settled, he could finally get back to the work he had been putting off for so long!

'The next major arc is the work study arc…'

If the story stuck to the original plot, then the students should have been briefed concerning it today.

'I still have some time before anything major happens.'

There were a lot of distasteful things that had occurred in the original story, things Kyle would love to prevent.

One of them, and by far the most important thing he had to prevent was Eri's abuse.

His eyes narrowed when he remembered the things the child had to go through.

Not only was she experimented on, she even had to witness a gruesome fight while being strapped to Deku's back.

Experiences no child deserved to go through…

"Alright…" Kyle grabbed the financial report from the table.

He still had quite some time to plan for his eventual encounter with Chisaki.

The work study wasn't starting till a month after all. If anything, his plan for Tatarus would happen much earlier.

Still, right now, what was important was money!!

He grabbed his coffee and took a sip. "Alright, let's see how much I made—"

Kyke froze when he saw the figures. "W-w-w-what the hell is this?!"

"SAKURA!!"
