Seraphine's POV
The scorching afternoon heat struck my face as I stepped into the narrow alleyway behind the diner. We had walked here searching for a restroom, only to discover it was chained shut.
"Are you kidding me?" Amy spat, rattling the metal chain with frustration. "I specifically called the owner yesterday to make sure this would be open for your visit." She shook her head in disgust. "That worthless drunk never listens to anything."
I glanced around the cramped space, seeing nothing but overflowing garbage bins and grimy brick walls. The distant rumble of city traffic felt miles away from this secluded spot. After Amy had insisted I try every signature drink at the diner, claiming each one was absolutely essential, my bladder was ready to burst. "Please tell me there's somewhere else nearby," I said, unable to hide my irritation.
