The malevolent energy wrapped around my consciousness like serpentine chains, attempting to corrupt every thought that passed through my mind. Tendrils of shadow crept along the periphery of my sight, exploiting every crack in my mental defenses. My breathing became labored and uneven.
Federico snarled within the depths of my psyche. We must concentrate. Think of our mate.
Seraphine. The name became my lifeline.
I forced my consciousness toward any fragment of joy I could grasp. Her name escaped my lips in a desperate whisper, as though speaking it could drag me from this consuming void. Then I saw her there, draped in pristine white fabric, illuminated by gentle lunar radiance.
My chest constricted. She appeared otherworldly, divine. Those luminous silver orbs met mine, cutting through the malevolent darkness that threatened to consume me.
