"Don't tell me you're still willing to accept her back after everything that happened Fred?" Mirabelle leaned by the door, her hazel eyes on the man seated on the desk across the room.
Fred moved his hands through his head frustratedly as he sighed.
She thinks I hate her, Mira," he said, as if the words might make sense if he said them aloud enough. "She thinks I haven't forgiven her. Did I overreact?"
At first, he had been overly confident that she would leave. He thought Maeve would apologize for cheating. She was the one who cheated, but why was he the one being punished for it.
Mirabelle closed the distance between them, slow and deliberate. "You did nothing wrong. Maeve doesn't deserve you." She perched on the edge of his desk, one heel hooked under her.
"You weren't the one who cheated, she was. All you've ever done is love her, but what did she do? She betrayed you." Mira said.
"Maeve is my sister, and I'll always have her back, but this is wrong. It is time we hold her accountable for her action.
Cheating on your wedding night is not a sin that can just be forgiven. Why crave another man when she finally had you all to herself?" Mira asked.
"Does that mean she never loved you from the beginning?" She came to stand next to Fred, blacking her bottom on the table.
"That's not possible." Fred shook his head violently. "She's loved me since the beginning of time. Plus Eve said she was the victim."
"And you believe her?" Mira raised her voice a little, her softness varnishing only for a brief second.
"Brother Fred I know you love my sister, but don't start acting foolish. Who could have set her up?" She asked.
"And even if it was a set up, why has she chosen to divorce you even if you're more then willing to forgive her?" Mira asked.
"She..." Fred has nothing to say. Mira spoke some sense. Since Maeve claimed the cheating was a set up, why has she refused to accept him back if she truly loved him?
Had she been using him all this while?
"Brother Fred, there's just something I haven't told you yet about Eve. She's a social climber. A ruthless one at that. She doesn't care about people's emotion and just hurt their feelings however she wants." Mira said calmly.
"But me...?" She pressed her fingers to her chest.
For her, she had been in love with Fred from the first day she set her eyes on him, and she would do anything to make him hers.
"I'm different Fred. You know that..." She placed her hands on his suit, her manicured nails resting on the collar.
"We did it a couple of times already, and you know I'm in love with you. Why can't we just..."
"It will never work Mira." Fred cut her off.
"I've given you everything you've asked for. But you can never be my wife. What would the world say?"
"No one would say a thing. Maeve already cheated and we already had sex a couple of times..."
"It was an accident. You forced yourself on me. You already promised you would'nt pester me into marrying you, why are you going against your word?" Fred asked.
"I love you Fred. Whatever I had promised is in the past now. You're a single man again, which means I can have you however I want." Mirabelle said.
"I'm afraid that is impossible Mirabelle. You're like a sister to me and nothing more. I cannot have anything to do with you."
"And the baby?" Fred's eyes turned wide, then he slowly frowned.
"What baby?"
"I'm pregnant Fred. Are you also going to deny your child too? I can just call mum and tell her what we've done behind everyone." Mirabelle cried out.
"No, it hasn't gotten to this Mirabelle. I... I had no idea you were pregnant." Fred said.
"Can you see now Fred. We're going to be parents very soon, can you stop loving Maeve now and focus on me?" Fred was silent. He was as selfish and Mirabelle. He couldn't give up winning Eve back for anything. Not even a child.
"That's not possible Mirabelle. You'd have to get rid of the child." Mirabelle was too stunned to speak. Not even pregnancy could change Fred's mind from loving her.
"She doesn't even love you! You're willing to kill your own child for her!" Mirabelle yelled at him.
"She lied to you Fred. Maeve wasn't set up in anyway, she had deliberately cheated and here's the proof." She placed her cellphone on the table with a video playing in the background.
"Please go easy mister." Though the video wasn't clear and the faces of the people in the background didn't show, Fred could hear Maeve's voice so clearly. It was her. She didn't sound like someone that was being raped.
"Ah! Oh! God!" She screamed. Fred quickly thrashed the phone from his sight and the device clattered to the floor as his control broke.
"No," he said. "No, Maeve didn't..."
Mirabelle's smile returned, slow and certain. "At the end of the day, I'm the one who truly cares about you, Fred. I always have."
She watched him fumble for his dignity, for justice, for revenge. Fred's jaw set. "If she betrayed me," he said, voice brittle, "I will make sure the world sees it."
She watched Fred bring out his phone, "Maeve cheated on me, I want the video plastered all over the Internet. I will ruin her beyond her imagination." He said to the person on the other end.
"Fred please don't do that. Punish her another way, but don't post her videos all over the net. Maeve may have done something wrong, she may have happily slept with another man while playing in your face. But she's still my sister." Mirabelle held his hands.
"She doesn't deserve you or I. One way or another, I'll destroy her." Fred declared.
This was the same tactic Mirabelle had used in her past life and had made Frank hate and kill Maeve.
