Arthur sat in Saint Cor's office. The man explained about the Sovereigns to the young man.
Arthur's face did not change, remaining indifferent after the initial shock. But while Arthur's exterior remained unchanged, his heart burned. These so-called Supremes,
Who had the power to change the world, perhaps even reclaim lands lost to the gate crisis? We're fighting each other like children. And the more the old Saint revealed to Arthur, the angrier he became. Especially when Cor told him about the impending crisis that was about to hit Antarctica.
Arthur knew, that he would go help in the cold continent, but in doing so, the city and the outskirts would lack defenses.
Especially with how many awakened and masters will be going to Antarctica.
And Arthur knew, that some of the governments awakened would ignore the outskirts. Most viewed the ruins as a rat fest. But Arthur knew how the people suffered; he knew what they were forced to do just to survive; he knew how they struggled. Sunny himself sometimes talked about the outskirts, it wasn't pretty.
And so he started negotiating with Cor.
If Cor wanted Arthur to sail for Antarctica, he would need a promise and proof that people were actually helping the outskirts. Cor himself couldn't do much, perhaps pay more. But promised Arthur that he would try before he asked him to leave for the cold wasteland.
And so for now, Arthur remained in the city, cultivating his strength and popularity. Since Cor saw it as a huge positive that such a person was in the government, it would most likely drive some of the new generation's awakening to join as well.
A week after the talk with Cor, Arthur found himself in the awakened academy, since Sunny had finally woken up from his second nightmare and had become an ascended.
Arthur waited in the background, while Sunny talked to his companions. After everyone dispersed, Arthur Godstepped next to Sunny. Surprisingly Sunny managed to somewhat track him, probably due to Arthur's shadow.
While Arthur talked with Sunny in the corner of the cafeteria, their words were hushed whispers.
Arthur caught up with Sunny on the current happenings in the world. Such as the sovereigns and the soon-to-happen disaster in Antarctica.
Soon they sadly had to go their own ways, as Arthur got another emergency call.
Arthur had made a simple plan, which was to become a devil before Antarctica, and so he did not miss any higher gates, relying on his ability to get fragments from kills, not to mention that most of the gate crises he went to, he gained the most shards. And while that irritated some people, no one questioned it. And now Cor himself would give more shards to Arthur, as he himself requested. Even if Cor didn't know why, since Arthur's first Cor should be filled up already. And so Arthur continued to rampage through the battles, his power glorious, his skill undeniable, his mindset pure. Every day Arthur went to at least six gates, depending on their ranks. The lower rank guardians became child's play with his now strengthened Aether and Static void.
Arthur saw a frostbiten mountain, thousands of eyes staring into his very soul. Behind him was a wall of destruction, the Aetherial flames looking like a mountain themselves. Then there was violet fire everywhere, destruction blazed wherever the eye could see.
Melted corpses of creatures, some only remaining as soul shards as proof of their existence.
And the maniacal laughter started, Regis at Arthur's side, grinning wickedly. Then everything turned violet.
Arthur woke up with a gasp, his eyes widened, pupils shaking, heart hammering, ears pounding.
Then everything was suppressed, even if a little bit, by Regis. The wolf cracked an eye open, his form lying on the foot side of the bed.
His eye did not convey worry or humor; it was just a look.
But that seemed to calm Arthur more than any words; soon, he went back to sleep. Regi's eyes were still locked on his asleep form, a glint of something in them. Then he too, went to sleep.
