"The truth is, I can't just divorce you after five months," he continued, his tone changing, becoming more controlled. "That would cause serious problems. Especially with my family."
Olaedo remained silent.
"I didn't really understand that until I left this morning," he continued. "I realized I wouldn't know how to deal with the consequences."
He took a breath.
"So I came here to ask if we could… figure something out."
He didn't say love again.
This time, he hid behind logic.
"Maybe we do long distance," Chibuzor said.
"It's easier to explain that you're going to school. We can say we're in a long distance marriage. I'll visit when I can."
He forced himself fully back into business mode. Logic. Damage control.
"It's much easier to explain that than to explain why we divorced after just five months," he added. "Don't you think?"
He hated himself a little for how calm he sounded.
To his disappointment, Olaedo nodded.
