Charlene
"Have you lost your mind, Charlene?" Those were the words Adrian yelled at me as soon as he heard the outcome of my meeting with Draven.
That made two of us.
"I understand that you want to save Damian's life, but you need to remember this was the same man who walked out on you five years ago. He refused to believe you!"
He placed a hand on mine on the table and cleared his throat. "I apologize for yelling at you, but Charlene, you have a life here, and we're already about to secure that multimillion-dollar project. Are you going to throw it all away and return to that hellhole?"
He was right. My life here was already established, and I was on my way to fulfilling my long-held dreams. But that could all end now because Draven was bent on taking the children away.
"It's a taboo for the heirs of Salvador to stay in the human world." Draven had said that when I refused his demands.
"I'm sorry if I sound selfish, Charlene, but as your best friend, I just want what's best for you."
"I understand your concerns for me, but Damian needs that transplant, and tradition forbids heirs from living in another world. I…" I paused and clenched my fist on the table.
"If I had an option, I wouldn't do this. Besides, they deserve to know their father. Draven might be a dickhead, but he's a good person."
I almost bit my tongue as I defended him. But it was the truth, because aside from what happened five years ago, I had known him for a long time and he was anything but cruel.
"I should be worried that you're defending him now?"
"No."
Adrian nodded. "I can't believe you're leaving me and the restaurant behind."
"Oh, don't worry about that because I never planned on staying permanently there. It's just for the children and besides," I paused for a moment, drawing a symbol on the table with my finger. "Draven and I already ended years ago. I don't care about him now, and I could also extend the restaurant into the werewolf world."
"That's a great idea," Adrian agreed. "Just know that if you need my help or want me to come over to that world, I will do anything for you and the children." He promised and hugged me.
I hugged him back and patted his back. "Thank you for everything, Adrian. Because of you, I was able to survive for years."
"I will always be here for you," he assured me.
That night, as I lay on my bed staring at the diamond chandelier above me, I wondered if I was making the right choice and if it wasn't just because I was desperate.
"The royal heirs must stay in the werewolf world as it is highly frowned upon, so this decision is for them. We must learn to live together for them," Draven's words resounded in my head.
"I hope I am right this time," I muttered to myself as I turned again.
It was at this time that I needed my wolf, but since I came to the human world and started taking suppressing pills to hide her away, I hadn't felt her in such a long time.
For the rest of the night, I tossed and turned, and it was only in the early morning that I finally managed to sleep.
```
Loud voices jerked me up from my sleep. I had been dreaming of Draven taking my children away from me while I cried and begged for mercy, and I woke up to that. Then I heard the voices as I fluttered my eyes open and listened carefully to the argument outside my room.
"I will rip out your heart and watch you bleed to death!" The deep voice belonging to Draven sounded.
"Well, Alpha King, I suggest you remove those fingers from my face, or I'll cut them off with my sharp knife," Adrian's calm voice retorted.
I rolled my eyes in annoyance and palmed my forehead as I climbed out of bed. Quickly, I put on a pair of pants and a blouse and rushed out of my room. I walked in on them about to hit each other.
"Charlene!" Draven shouted in surprise.
I turned to face him with a grin. "Good morning." I bowed, even though he had warned me not to. I just did it to anger him, and it worked because he was glaring hard as his eyes met mine. "What brings you here this early morning?"
He wasn't even supposed to be here because we had planned to meet at the end of the week, which was in two days.
"I came to inform you that we are leaving this afternoon," he announced, and my eyes widened in disbelief.
"What!" I shouted. "But… we both agreed to two days and I haven't told the children about you and I…"
Draven shrugged. "I am the Alpha King and my attention is already needed in the werewolf world. Also, I don't trust you if I leave now, which is why we are leaving together." He added, "I can only give you until this afternoon and…"
His words were cut off by Adrian's laughter. Then he grabbed my hand and pulled me behind him. "She's not going anywhere!" he declared.
"Fuck off, stupid human!" Draven yelled at him, advancing toward him. "Whatever happens between us is none of your business, so back off!" He growled and raised his hand, ready to strike Adrian, but I stepped in between them again, grabbed his hand, and pulled him toward the nearest room, shutting the door.
"Calm down, Draven," I told him as I leaned against the door.
"Charlene! If he tries anything, let me know so I can knock some sense into him," Adrian shouted from outside.
"I am fine," I assured him and turned back to face Draven, whose eyes were roaming around the room. I let out a frustrated groan, realizing that I had brought him into the picture room.
It was a room that contained most of my pictures with the triplets and Adrian.
