"Of all the maddening, absurd things, the council of elders had to choose today to test my patience!" I yelled as I stormed into the throne room, my anger rising until it felt unbearable.
My blood burned as if fire surged through every vein, each heartbeat pounding out everything I had been holding back.
I entered the throne room, where the elders had gathered to discuss the attacks shaking the realm.
The attack by the rogues on an innocent family, happening at the same time we were ambushed while the Alpha's family was visiting, had been a brutal blow. The only survivor was the Alpha's five-year-old son. Five deaths followed, including the Alpha and his family.
As I stepped in, all of them stood and bowed their heads. Their expressions were judgmental, and every stare was a silent criticism. Their eyes reminded me of Charlene's rejection the night before. For a moment, I wondered if they, too, were pushing me away.
