When I got home, the penthouse was quiet. I found Asher in the dining room, setting the table for two.
"You're making dinner?" I asked, surprised.
"I thought we could eat together tonight." He said. "I know things have been difficult. But I thought maybe we could try."
I should have said no and had taken my food to my room like I'd been doing for weeks. But I was too tired to fight.
"Okay." I said.
We sat at opposite ends of the table. He'd ordered from my favorite Thai restaurant. His another attempt to show he was paying attention and that he cared.
For the first fifteen minutes, we ate in silence.
"Lily called me today." Asher said.
My fork paused halfway to my mouth.
"I know about the supplier issue."
"I made some calls. I think I can help."
"Thank you. I appreciate it."
"Rysa." He set down his fork and looked at me. "We need to talk."
"About what?"
"About us. We can't keep living like roommates who hate each other."
"I don't hate you." I lied.
