Lucien's POV
Damn it. We were done. Dead. Completely doomed. I thought as my heart raced so violently I thought someone might hear it through the armor.
How did he know? How did he find out? I had no idea — but I needed to get out of here. Quickly. Before he finds out that I was here.
"The look of shock on your faces is extremely amusing," the King said lightly.
His smile widened.
"I know it may be difficult for you to comprehend what I'm saying, since you're all so dull, but what I saw is the truth. Those two are fallen angels who have somehow snuck into the Hollows. And certainly not without a purpose."
"Your Majesty," one of the guards said carefully, "if that's the case… should we capture and torture them?"
My chest tightened.
"No," the King replied with a small laugh. "Do nothing of the sort."
Then he leaned back casually.
"They came here for a reason. I would rather discover their objective before taking action against them."
