"But it is already ruined," Enzo says, his voice heavy with defeat as he gestures at the destruction around us. "I ruined it. The meeting is tomorrow... we cannot possibly start fixing all of this in time. I am really sorry."
"Yes, we can," I insist, my voice firm with a conviction I did not know I possessed. I intertwine our fingers together firmly, squeezing his hand, and I start doing what I do best: scheming at the last minute, but this time, for a completely different cause. "We do not have to cancel; we postpone it. We shift the time from a 9 a.m. brunch to a 4 p.m. casual picnic. Then, we can have a little dinner after-party here in the hall afterwards. We can have everyone who can help meet here at 5 p.m. tonight so we can get to work immediately. You might want to call the event agency that did the original decor so we can discuss adjusting the previous theme to fit an outdoor setting."
