Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Day One: Obey the Law, Day Two: Rob a Bank!

Gwen's mouth dropped open.

She stared at the dust, which, reflected by the sunlight and still revealing the shape of the sandbags, drifted away at a visible speed, feeling awe.

A heavy sword without a sharp edge, great skill without effort!

Hawke stood still, slowly exhaled, then turned to look.

Gwen now turned her gaze back to Hawke.

  Their eyes met.

Gwen looked at Hawke, his forehead slightly sweaty, wearing a white tank top that accentuated his muscular figure, his hands bandaged.

Suddenly, she felt an indescribable feeling. Hawke,in turn, looked at Gwen's appearance with a touch of surprise.

  "Is there anything wrong?"

  "No,"

Gwen shook her head, hands behind her back, and walked towards Hawke, taking in the old gymnasium, which she hadn't been to since the new one was built.

"The new gym has air conditioning, why don't you go there?"

  Hawke thought for a moment.

  "It's quiet here."

  "It's quite quiet indeed,"

  Gwen confirmed Hawke's explanation.

Hawke watched Gwen walk over to the bench where he'd placed his backpack and sat down, a bit bewildered.

  "What's up, Gwen?"

  "Nothing,"

Gwen said, leaning on the bench with both hands. She smiled, looking at Hawke standing in front of the punching bag.

"I'm just sitting around anyway, so I came to watch my friend boxing."

  Hawke raised an eyebrow.

He felt a hint of something in Gwen's smile.

But never mind, boxing was more important.

Hawke thought to himself, shook his head, and tore his gaze from Gwen, returning to the punching bag before him, ready to continue his daily 10,000-punch goal.

  After all, he'd almost finished.

  And then Gwen came in.

  That's it.

It's time to start all over again.

Hawke thought, then adjusted his breathing. He didn't use the power of his inner cosmos, relying solely on his physical strength to complete his daily 10,000-punch goal.

  As for Gwen?

Let her watch if she wanted.

This was a public gym after all, and he couldn't stop anyone from entering.

  There was no reason.

  Soon.

As Hawk swung his fist again, the rhythmic, resounding sound of blows echoed through the old gymnasium once again.

However, compared to his previous pace, Hawk instinctively sped up his pace this time, aiming to complete his task as quickly as possible.

  Punch, punch, and punch again.

  And then…

  fist shadows appeared.

Gwen, sitting on the bench, felt a flash of light before her eyes, and then, staring at the image of a sky full of fist shadows, her expression dazed. "

  What's going on?

  I didn't even blink,"

Gwen thought to herself, instinctively pulling her phone from her pocket and pointing it at Hawk.

Hawk, concentrating on his boxing, watched the scene from the corner of his eye.

  "Don't record it."

  "...Oh,"

Gwen heard, watching the action non-stop, not even glancing at Hawk. She blinked, wondering if she had just heard something, but she still put her phone down.

After a moment, the shadows faded, Hawk's movements ceased, and the old gymnasium fell silent once more.

Hawk then yanked the chain, unhooking the hanging sandbag.

With a single flick of his hand, he flung it back into the corner.

As Gwen watched, he walked over to the bench, retrieved a towel from the outer pocket of his backpack, and looked at Gwen, who sat beside him.

He thought for a moment, then asked again, "Are you sure you're okay, Gwen?"

  Gwen nodded.

  "Yes."

  "..."

Hawk's mouth twitched imperceptibly, but Gwen caught it.

  She smiled.

But Gwen didn't tease Hawk any further. Instead, she stated her purpose for coming to Hawke: "We're counting for this year's senior dance. Are you going?"

Although Midtown High was a private, elite high school, it had all the expected dances and parties, like the start-of-term dance, the masquerade party, and the senior dance.

Gwen would almost always ask Hawke if he wanted to attend, but Hawke never did.

He was a lone wolf, preferring quiet to noisy, bustling surroundings.

But that was just a high-EQ way of saying it.

  The real reason was simple.

He was broke, with no money for a prom dress, no car, and even no driver's license. He couldn't just walk his date home afterward.

Most importantly,he didn't even have a date.

Why would he go to a prom alone, just to watch couples flirt and show off their affection right in front of him?

  This year was no exception.

  "No,"

Hawke shook his head without hesitation.

He preferred stargazing from his apartment rooftop to attending a prom.

  Quiet.

  Most importantly,

  no money.

Save where you can, spend where you can.

He was already independent early, no longer receiving federal aid.

Between renting and shopping for groceries this week, his savings had dwindled significantly.

Hawke even felt that the idea of buying a car he'd had a few days ago was a bit rash.

So, he'd given up on it.

Better to save some money for a rainy day.

The school had a free bus to Bridge Park anyway, so why would he need a car?

He doesn't even have a driver's license.

Even if he bought one, he wouldn't be able to drive.

  Damn.

Maybe I should consider robbing a bank. Meteorites cost money, after all.

No.

I'm already planning to rob something.

Why does he have to rob a bank?

I can't just rob a bank and then use the money to ask wealthy people to buy their meteorites.

  He's crazy.

Hawke's thoughts were scattered.

He was considering the feasibility of robbing the meteorite directly.

After all, Wakanda wouldn't give him the vibranium.

He'd probably have to rob it then.

If robbing vibranium is robbing, then robbing a meteorite is robbing too.

If he'd already robbed both, robbing a bank didn't seem like a big deal.

Gwen looked at Hawke curiously.

After shaking his head and saying he wasn't going to the senior prom, his eyes suddenly became vacant, as if he was lost in thought.

  "What are you thinking about?"

  "Robbing a bank."

  "..."

  Gwen raised an eyebrow.

Hawke came back to his senses and subconsciously looked at Gwen.

  Their eyes met.

  The next second.

Gwen looked thoughtful, and looked at Hawke with a smile on her face:

"Which bank do you plan to rob? I recommend you go to the Pacific Bank under the jurisdiction of the 19th Precinct."

  Hawke frowned slightly.

"Is the Pacific Bank easy to rob?"

  "No."

Gwen said with a bright smile: "But my father is the sheriff of the 19th Precinct."

  Hawke was silent.

  After a while.

He looked at Gwen seriously: "I'm kidding."

He decided that if he really wanted to rob a bank, he would never go to the jurisdiction of the 19th Precinct.

Gwen stood up from her chair with a bright smile, and just when she was about to speak, the phone in her pocket rang.

  "Mrs. Snow..."

  "Hawk?"

  "Okay."

  "I know where he is."

  Soon.

After hanging up the phone, Gwen said to Hawke who was looking at her:

"Let's go, Mrs. Snow wants to see you."

  Hawke: "..."
