Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Guardian of the mourner

Night focused vividly on the scales in his bag, he wasn't sure yet but if shadow imbued items could be manipulated, could it be possible to combine them. From all his trials and failures, there was still a possibility.

First thing he found out, two items of different composition could not be merged, like sand and. a leaf and rocks and water. Second was that, when two materials of the same composition is combined they increase in strength and value.

Night picked up a scale, then imbued shadowy mist into it.

It was going to be enough so....

[Shadowless]

I manipulate the scale making it into a small ball. Then began the merging.

---

His time was up, it was the day he had to kill the guardian. Waiting for Sylvia at the entrance of the cave, night packed a few things with him, he was still oblivious of the spawns race or rank. But, he was still prepared just in case of anything that goes wrong.

Sylvia popped up in front of him

"Why don't you just give up, i've given you enough chances to leave, why can't you just listen"

Because, i don't think i can live with myself if i keep running..

She just walked past him inyo the cave, night followed after her. Going deep into the cave, farther than where they both stayed. Night arrived at the end of it, it was wide and empty. Sylvia faced him and said;

"Do you still want to do this "

Yes

Then enter. Night walked in and as soon as he reached the centre of the cave, he felt something. Right belo...

The ground below him shattered as Sylvia stabbed the ground with her blade.

Night fell straight down. Dammit, he wasn't even ready yet.

Night merged with his shadow, then summoned his chronicles, before he could even see it crumble, he was plummetting into the dark.

His eyes adjusted as he saw it emerge, a giant snake, which had six eyes and torn fins around its neck. Its whole body were covered in scales that were nothing like the ones on the wailers. Each one was enough to make a million, then its eyes opened.

Night landed and soon as it saw him.

It lunged straight for me.

[Lamenting Edge]

[Black sword]

Before it could reach me, i lunged forward, and slashed it, head on. The shockwave sent me flying , i redirected the force to avoid the chronicles from breaking. Fighting head on would be a stupid idea.

[Shadowless]

My shadow merged with me as every non living shadow entered the two swords. The guardian lunged again, this time, i avoided it by jumping to the side. I slashed a scale, then jumped back. It lunged for me again.

I switched forms as i prepared to counter, the walls crumbled as it landed on the wall. I lunged forward, slashing it with the blades. Shadowy mist seeped into the scale.

I jumped back as the guardian attacked again. This time it was faster, lunging me into the wall before i could change. Still, i switched forms, still managing to block some of the damage.

Night coughed out blood, along with a thing line of blood dripping out of his ear. He overused the traits too much, but still it was worth it. Before the guardian could attack again. Scales he'd attacked before switched into shadow.

[Shadow Manipulation]

A loud shriek echoed through the cave, as the guardian scales pierced deep into its own body. Although it didn't do any big damage, it still gave him a chance. Night lunged forward and for a split second he let go of his Sword. Shadow seeped out his hand, as a dark orb took shape. He threw it into the guardian's mouth, grabbed his blades back and lunged forward again, this time aiming for the guardian's eye. Its tail shot him into the ground, making him lose focus.

He vomited blood.

Explode

A large explosion shaked the entire cave, as the the shard activated. The guardian's jaw was only a bit torn even after that explosion.

Night lunged forward, but he stared into the guardian's eyes by mistake, he looked away immediately. All of a sudden, he stopped moving, the guardian dissipated into mist in an instant. He tried his best to move and when he could, a large tail sent him flying into a corner filled with rubble.

Night regained control but, he was too injured. His sight was blurry and he was bleeding badly. In that state, he was sure he couldn't manage to keep even one trait active.

The guardian, reappeared, it was injured as well, but not as much as him. He stared into all its eyes, as he lunged forward, unlike before he didn't stop.

He slashed, the guardian's jaw before it could attack, then counter its blow.

The shockwave shot through his body, throwing him off balance.

He lunged back and tried to take a shard he kept in his pocket, but it was shattered. But yet, each piece was still pitch black.

He focused back on the guardian.

It didn't move, something's wrong.

All of a sudden, my hand moved on its own, drawing closer to my neck. Then tried to behead me. I switched forms instantly, then , tried to avoid the guardian's view.

Whatever happened just now could happen again. This fight had to end soon.

Its tail swung at me. I switched the lamenting edge's blade into shadow then threw it at it before avoiding the attack. The blade passed through it without making a scratch and then i reverted it back.

Blood surged out of the guardian, along with a white light. The blade Shattered as the hex's voice echoed.

[Your chronicle as been destroyed]

Damn it,

The tail swung back at him while he was distracted.

Night couldn't use any of his shadow traits any more. So he tried to block with his body.

He was shot rapidly into the ground, all the grains of the broken shard fluttered in the air.

With a desparate plea, he said

"Explode"

Every falling piece exploded releasing a fair share of black flame with it. The flames burned him too but he wasn't affected.

He stared at the black sword and thought in his mind, would he be able to refine it.

The guardian lunged at him, he was still reluctant since it was his last weapon and he wasn't sure, but still.... either way, i will still lose something in exchange.

Black flames surged into the blade. The hex voice echoed:

[You have refined a chronicle using the ??? trait]

[Enchantment of the chronicle [Black sword] is greatly enhanced]

[An enchantment is being imbued]

[You have understood the purpose of the black sword]

Night clashed head on with the guardian, the ground below him cracked under the pressure.

The guardian's scales were broken, but with them , the black sword did too. He heard a faint voice, which he thought he imagined along with the hex's..

"Your will is more defined"

[Your chronicle as been destroyed]

Both night and the guardian were incapacitated. But the guardian still rose up. He tried to stand, but his body didn't listen.

Sylvia came in, and the guardian stopped, unable to move due to some kind of energy.

"Do you give up" her voice brimming with arrogance as she said it.

No, i won't, because if i do. Everything i faced up onto now will have been for waste.

Then listen, don't fight with wit, fight with your pain. Release all you've keep hidden up until now.

Your sorrow, your pain and your anger. Release them.

That is how to use my art. That is how to use sorrow's dance.

The force vanished as the guardian began to move again.

Night forced himself up, as he released one more trick he kept up his sleeve. A sword made from the scales of the wailers and other spawns he had killed up onto now.

That force, remembering it, i pouted out all of my sorrow. Until i felt myself drown in it.

My sorrow was my blade.

I moved forward

With each step, i poured it all out. After all, sorrow was the one thing, i knew too well.

The guardian attacked me, but somehow i could counter it. Returning each attacked and wound it had inflicted upon me unto now.

But as i moved, i could feel myself fall. Into the abyss of sorrow.

The only thing that kept me grounded was the memory i received from my trial.

Then i stopped, i opened my eyes which i never knew were closed..

My blade was at the guardian's neck. But as i looked at it, i finally saw it, sorrow buried in its eyes.

How could i.... No i had to

I drew my blade and then beheaded it in that moment.

A warm hand calmed me, the hex's voice echoed:

[You have slain Doom marked Devil, guardian of the abyssal mourner]

[Absorbing Residual energy]

[Your flame grows stronger]

[Your shadow grows stronger]

[You have obtained a whisper]

[Task completed]
