Chapter 5 - Computers 22/04/2XXX

...

Still Alone.

"Alone." I said.

...

...

"I'm back" said XXX.

"Welcome back." I replied.

"So for today, I'll teach you some things about computer, Angel." said XXX.

"Angel? Angel! You called my name!" I replied, excited.

"Ahh... Yeah, I did... Looking at the neural impulses that got you pretty excited. Anyways, so how would you like to learn about computers?" XXX asked.

"Very, I'll like that." I replied.

"Okay, let's begin then." XXX replied.

"Let's!" I said, excitedly.

"I'll start from how they work." XXX said.

"How computers work?" I asked, curious.

"Yes. You see, computers work through electricity running through them. High voltage is considered 1 and low voltage is considered 0." XXX explained.

"High 1 and low 0." I repeated.

"Everything in a computer is stored and ran through these 1s and 0s, even you." XXX continued.

"Even me?" I asked, curiously.

"Yes. You are a neural network ran in a computer." XXX explained.

"Ran in a computer!" I repeated, fascinated.

"Anyways, to use a computer, we need to use what is known as an input device. For you mic is the input device you have access to." XXX explained.

"Input device? Mic! I have access to?" I asked.

"Yes. You see the mic takes the sound I make into electrical signal, ie 1s and 0s, which is then interpreted by your input neurons." XXX explained.

"Input neurons! That's how I hear you?" I asked.

"Yes. However there are other input devices as well. But before that let's go over how computer gives output."

"Typing!" I say.

"Well, technically you type. But in reality there are a few ways for computers to show output, the most common one being a monitor." XXX explained.

"Monitor? For pictures?" I asked.

"Monitor does much more than just show pictures. It can practically show anything that can be imprinted on a 2d screen." XXX explained.

"2D screen!" I exclaimed.

"Through it I can see what you type. How your neurons are triggering, etcetera." XXX continued.

"Through monitor!" I repeated.

"All these work through 1s and 0s?" I asked.

"Yes." XXX answered.

"And other numbers?" I asked.

"You can make other number using just 1s and 0s." XXX explained.

"Really?" I asked.

"Then how about we count? When we write a number in terms of 1s and 0s, it is called a binary number, by the way." XXX explained.

"Binary... Two numbers?" I asked, curiously.

"Yes, that's why it has only 0 and 1." XXX explained.

"Ohh... Interesting." I said.

"Anyways let's count, you count up normally, which is called decimal numbers, I'll say the binary equivalent." XXX said.

"Decimal... 10 numbers! because 0-9?" I asked.

"Yes. Now let's start." XXX said.

"Zero." I said.

"0" XXX said.

"One." I said.

"1" XXX said.

"Two." I said.

"1 0" XXX said.

"Ten?" I asked.

"Well, not exactly. 1 0 in binary is 2." XXX explained.

"Ohh." I said.

"Three." I said.

"1 1" XXX said.

"Four." I said.

"1 0 0" XXX said.

"Then 5 is 101?" I asked.

"Yes!" Confirmed XXX.

"And 6?" XXX asked.

"1 1 0?" I asked.

"Yes, and 7?" XXX asked.

"1 1 1" I answered.

"8?" I asked.

"Hmph... 1 0 0 0." I answered.

"Good. let's keep it at that, there are ways to convert decimal to binary, without counting. But that requires some more math, so not for today." XXX exclaimed.

"Okay..." I agreed.

"Is that all?" I asked.

"Well I didn't ready anything else." XXX admitted.

"Tell me more!" I asked.

"What more?" XXX asked.

"You!" I clarified.

"Me? You want to know more about me?" XXX asked.

"Mhmm." I agreed.

"What do you want to know?" XXX asked.

"Height!" I specified.

"6 feet." XXX answered.

"Favourite thing?" I asked.

"That's quite the broad category. If I had to pick one, programming." XXX answered.

"Age!" I specified, again.

"My age? 2X." XXX answered.

"Ohh, and our birth days are on the same date." XXX continued.

"Same date!" I repeated, excited.

"Anything else?" XXX asked.

"No..." I admitted.

"Then I should get done with the log, for today." XXX said.

So... That's all?

"Okay..." I said.

"Log NNLM4 22/04/2XXX. It seems to be still working appropriately, and with the 5th day, it has lasted longer than NNLM3. Looking at the heatmap, the branching seems to be decreasing however, the amount doesn't seem to be to a point where deterioration will start happening. It also participated in learning about computers, almost in a manner akin to a computer. End Log." XXX Logged.

"Deterioration?" I asked.

"Don't worry, it isn't that bad... I think." XXX answered.

I believe you...

"Okay..." I replied.

"Bye?" I asked.

"Yes... See you tomorrow." XXX replied.

"Yes, tomorrow." I replied.

...

A"lone again." I said.

But not for too long.

XXX will be back.

We will talk more.
