The beast roared, shaking the entire clearing. Its claws dragged across the blackened stone, leaving trails of sparks. The smoke around the pit grew thicker, choking the air.
Seo Jin's hands tightened around his sword. His body screamed in pain from every wound he hadn't recovered from, but his mind buzzed sharp. Pattern, HP bar, weak spots. Don't panic. Just read the mob.
The fox clung to his hair, tail puffed up. "Host, I detect boss-level danger! Alert! Alert!"
Seo Jin muttered, "No shit."
The beast lunged. Its jaw opened wide, teeth dripping with venom. Seo Jin rolled to the side, dirt scraping his skin raw. The stench of poison filled his nose.
The Villain moved at the same time, black robes snapping in the air. His sword slashed cleanly, carving through the beast's leg. Black blood sprayed like rain.
But the beast only screamed louder.
Seo Jin's gamer brain clicked. Right. Classic dungeon mechanic. Cut the limbs, it enrages. Keep the aggro balanced or it berserks.
The fox squeaked, "Host! Don't just stand there thinking! Move!"
Seo Jin sprinted forward. His blade stabbed into the beast's other leg—not strong enough to cripple it, but enough to draw attention.
The beast roared, eyes flashing red. Its massive claw swung toward him like a falling boulder.
Seo Jin cursed and dove flat, the wind of the strike nearly tearing him in half. He hit the ground hard, ribs screaming.
The Villain's voice cut through the chaos. "Useless."
Seo Jin smirked through the blood on his lips. "And yet I'm still breathing."
The Villain's gaze darkened. His sword flashed again, this time severing the beast's tail in one clean strike.
The monster reeled, shrieking. Its body convulsed, black smoke leaking from the wounds.
Seo Jin's instincts screamed. Final phase. It's about to transform.
He shouted, "Move back!"
The Villain glanced at him, but didn't move.
The beast exploded in black fire, body twisting into something even uglier. Horns erupted from its skull, claws lengthened, eyes burning with new rage.
The ground itself shook as it slammed a claw into the earth. Cracks spread across the clearing.
Seo Jin coughed dust from his lungs, groaning. "Yeah, of course it has a second phase. Figures."
The fox yelped. "Host, it's way stronger now! You can't win—"
Seo Jin cut it off. "I know." His eyes gleamed, cold and sharp. "That's why I'll cheat."
He grabbed a broken piece of stone from the ground and hurled it at the beast's face. It wasn't much, but it made the monster flinch.
In that instant, the Villain's blade struck. A deep gash tore across the beast's chest.
Seo Jin darted in from the other side, stabbing his sword into the wound before it could close. Black blood splattered his face, burning his skin like acid.
He screamed, but didn't let go. Pain is temporary. Winning is permanent.
The beast thrashed, trying to shake him off. Seo Jin clung on with everything he had, stabbing again and again.
The Villain moved like shadow, his strikes precise and merciless. Together, their attacks formed a deadly rhythm—cold precision and reckless cunning.
Finally, the beast let out one last roar before collapsing, the ground trembling under its weight.
Black smoke rose from its corpse, curling into the air before vanishing.
Silence fell.
Seo Jin collapsed onto his knees, panting, blood dripping from his arms and face. His sword slipped from his grasp, clattering on the stone.
The fox flopped onto his shoulder, eyes wide. "Host… you're alive. You actually lived."
Seo Jin smirked weakly. "Told you. Cheating always works."
The Villain stood over the corpse, sword dripping black blood. His gaze turned to Seo Jin, sharp and unreadable.
Seo Jin met his eyes, grin stubborn even through the pain. "What? Gonna call me useless again? At least I distracted your pet monster."
The Villain's eyes narrowed. He stepped closer, shadows curling around him. For a moment, Seo Jin thought he might strike him down.
Instead, the Villain said quietly, "Not useless."
Seo Jin froze.
The fox's tail puffed up in excitement. "Host! Did you hear that?! He praised you! Romance points! Ding ding ding!"

Seo Jin collapsed onto the ground, laughing weakly despite the blood on his lips. "Hah… guess I really am living in a dating sim."
The Villain's shadow loomed over him, silent and cold. But his gaze lingered just a little too long.
