The beast's corpse still smoked when the disciples finally dared to step into the clearing. Their faces were pale, their eyes filled with fear and awe.
They glanced at Seo Jin—covered in blood, sitting half-slumped against a rock—and then quickly looked away, whispering to each other.
"He survived?"
"He actually fought beside the Lord?"
"No one has ever lasted this long…"
Seo Jin smirked despite his ragged breathing. Let them talk. I might look half-dead, but I didn't just survive. I got praised. That's basically legendary.
The fox sat proudly on his shoulder, puffing out its chest. "Host, did you hear? Your reputation is rising! Maybe next they'll start calling you the Lord's chosen one!"
Seo Jin muttered, "More like his chosen punching bag."
The Villain wiped his blade clean with a cloth, movements calm and precise, as if killing a monster like that was nothing. His expression was unreadable as always, cold as frost.
But when his gaze flicked to Seo Jin, something shifted—too quick for anyone else to notice.
"Get up," he ordered.
Seo Jin groaned. "If I get up right now, my legs will snap in half."
The Villain stepped closer. For a second, Seo Jin thought he was about to be dragged by force. But instead, the Villain reached down, grabbed his wrist, and pulled him up with effortless strength.
Seo Jin stumbled forward, colliding into the man's chest. His face pressed against cold black robes that smelled faintly of steel and something darker.
The disciples froze in shock.
Seo Jin blinked up, lips twitching. "Well, if this isn't romance development, I don't know what is."
The fox squealed in his head. "Yes! Yes! Fall into his arms! Perfect moment! Ding ding ding!"
The Villain's eyes narrowed dangerously. He released Seo Jin instantly, letting him fall back onto his feet. "Don't overthink it."
Seo Jin smirked. "Too late."

The group began their return to the sect. The disciples carried what little was left of the beast's corpse, whispering among themselves about the fight.
Seo Jin limped after the Villain, the fox perched like a furry crown on his head.
"Host," the fox whispered, "do you realize what this means? He didn't kill you. He even… helped you. This is progress!"
Seo Jin rubbed at his bruised ribs. "Progress toward an early grave, maybe."
Still, deep inside, he couldn't forget that brief moment—the Villain holding him up, silent but steady.

By the time they reached the sect, the sun was setting. The air was heavy with red light, casting long shadows across the courtyard.
The Villain finally turned to him. "From today, you'll follow me."
Seo Jin stopped in his tracks. "…Follow you? As in… everywhere?"
The Villain's gaze was sharp, his tone leaving no room for argument. "Yes."
Seo Jin stared at him, then burst out laughing. "Wow. So I've been promoted from disposable trash to personal servant. Should I be honored?"
The disciples around them stiffened, horrified by his words. But the Villain only turned away, walking into the hall.
Seo Jin's laughter faded into a grin. Follow him, huh? That's not a death sentence—it's a chance. If I stay close, I can read him like a raid boss. Find his weaknesses. Exploit them.
The fox purred in his head. "Or… fall in love with him."
Seo Jin rolled his eyes. "Shut up."
But his heart was beating faster than it should.

That night, Seo Jin lay on his bed, staring at the ceiling. His body ached too much to sleep.
The system's voice chimed suddenly.
[Ding! Mission Update: Forced Companion Activated.]
[Task: Remain by the Villain's side for 30 days.]
[Reward: Body Strengthening Pill.]
Seo Jin's eyes widened. "A pill that strengthens this trash body? Finally, something useful."
The fox wagged its tail. "See? Staying close to him has benefits!"
Seo Jin smirked faintly. "Benefits and death flags, all in one."
He closed his eyes, his last thought drifting to the Villain's cold gaze in the fading sunset.
Thirty days, huh? Let's see who breaks first.
