Nyara was so lost in pleasure that she failed to notice the small footsteps approaching.
Jax heard them immediately.
He broke free from her grip. Stood up straight. Positioned himself directly in front of her exposed lower body just as Brian rounded the corner.
The boy's eyes found his mother sitting on the kitchen counter. Confusion painted his small face.
"Mother? What are you doing up there?"
Nyara's heart nearly stopped. She froze completely, unable to form words.
Jax answered smoothly.
"Her legs felt heavy from working all day. She was just sitting on the counter for some rest."
Brian nodded slowly. "Ahh, I get it."
He walked toward the water pitcher. Jax shifted his position to keep blocking Nyara's exposed parts from view. She grabbed the spatula and began stirring the pan with exaggerated innocence.
Brian drank his water. Set down the glass. Started walking back toward the living room.
Then stopped.
"Uncle Jax, the book is boring."
Jax raised an eyebrow.
