Chapter 11 - Family Meeting

This amount was acceptable. But this... was terrifyingly awesome.

Not too long ago, Mo Yichen stood beside me while he gestured towards a new black Mercedes Benz, a customized version tailored to my style.

I was beyond shocked and didn't want to accept the gifts, but he forced me to take it, or he might destroy it.

Why would he get rid of such a beautiful thing.

We used it as the ride, and even my driver was shocked by the new car. Once we were in, it smelled of leather and wealth, something my father could never dream of owning.

I was clothed in the dark emerald tight dress he had picked, the one he simply called "acceptable". It was beautiful, but wearing it felt like wearing a leash.

Like a cute cat, tailored for the King. And I could only meow on his thighs.

The silence between us was dense, broken only by the low purr of the engine and the keyboard noise from beside me. I glanced at him from the corner of my eyes; he looked hotter in reading glasses, his long fingers racing on the keyboard.

I kept my eyes fixed on the skyscrapers flashing past, but my skin prickled with the awarness of his hand rested casually on the console, just inches from my knee. I tensed and shifted awkwardly.

"You look beautiful," Mo Yichen stated, his voice quiet.

It sounded like a compliment, but it was a simple, possessive fact. He didn't need to look at me, like his words couldn't be dispute.

For some reason, I felt butterflies in my stomach, pink staining my cheek.

"The dress is comfortable," I mumbled, avoiding his gaze.

He finally broke the silence. "I took care of the annoyance this morning."

I swallowed, my heard turning in his direction, my brows corked. "The annoyance?"

"The one who set the trap for you at the gala," he said, closing the laptop and focusing his attention on me, his dark eyes boring into mine. "I looked into the matter immediately. The police should have picked her up already. She's currently being held on charges of drugging and conspiracy to assault."

He tilted his head, no smile on his face, just raw rage in his eyes. He knew.

But who could have said it?

My mind flashed to Madam Han but shook my head, dismissing the idea.

"You arrested my sister?" I asked, my voice dangerously calm, forcing a hint of fake anxiety.

Yichen narrowed his eyes and growled, "She deserved worse, for setting my wife up to be raped. Just imagine what would have happened if you didn't tumble into my room?"

It would have been bad. I pressed my lips into a thin line, knowing he was right.

I twisted in the leather seat to face him fully. "No. She is still my sister, Yichen. She can be reckless, but I promise, I have fixed things with her."

I felt sick saying it, but this was crucial. I wanted Zhen Rui to suffer the same fate I had in my past life.

"Oh?" Yichen scoffed, his eyebrows cocking. "Pull over."

He ordered, and the car swerved to the side of the highway. The engine died down, plunging us into silence.

For some reason, I felt nervous.

"Why are you protecting her?" he demanded, his voice low and dangerous. "After she almost ruined your life?"

I bit my inner cheek, my eyes closing for a painful moment before I opened them again. He was consumed by a simmering rage, clearly angry for me. My heart felt a surprising warmth.

"I'm not protecting her," I hissed, leaning into his space. "I am protecting my parents. A legal fight will expose everything. My parents' reputation would face backlash if we were to lock her in jail. For now she can roam free so she can learn her lesson. Her reputation is already ruined. And it wouldn't affect your name, either."

My breathing was heavy.

But I knew the only reason he was intervening was because this might affect his reputation. So I needed to assure him that I got everything under control.

"Do you think I am doing this because of my name?" he asked, his tone mocking.

"What else?" I challenged, tilting my head.

He laughed, a harsh, humorless sound. "I am doing this because I am so angry that someone would lay a hand on you because I am not here. You have to be careful."

His voice dropped to a low warning, and I clenched my fist.

"You don't have to be angry." I whispered softly, avoiding his eyes.

He reached out and traced the outline of my chin with his thumb. "You are my wife. I will release her immediately. But let this be clear, Mo Yi," he warned, his voice raspy. "if she, or that dog Xiao Bo, so much as look at you the wrong way, I will erase their existence. If you need me to handle the mess, I will do it. The only thing you have to do is sit pretty. Deal?"

I gulped, staring into his resolute gaze. This man had gone mad, and he was not joking.

"Deal..." I nodded.

"Start the engine." He ordered, and pulled me into his arms for a brief possessive squeeze.

The car resumed driving, and soon enough, we were at the Mo Family Mansion.

I looked outside the window. I was awed. The ancient looking mansion was beautiful, bigger than anything I had ever seen. The car drew to a stop beneath the grand portico.

Standing at a reasonable distance, were several waiting figures. For some unknown reason my stomach knotted in fear.

Yichen must have noticed, because he suddenly leaned in, and claimed my lips into a hot, public kiss that left me breathless. My mind became fuzzy and everything felt hazy.

"Relax." he whispered, his breath rough against my ear. His jaw was clenched, his expression strained as if he was holding on from unraveling.

The car door opened. I could see them all waiting for me. I looked at Yichen who held me tightly again.

He chuckled, his eyes burning with command. "Go on, Little Yi. My family doesn't bite."
