Chapter 11 - Illusion

After the divine phoenix had transferred enough power to keep his Master stable for the time being, he grabbed a pen and paper to draw the strange curse mark on the back of his Master's neck and decided to travel to the Unbridled World to seek answers regarding his Master's condition.

The divine phoenix stepped back, his hands clasped before him as he bowed his head before the unconscious form of his Master.

''Master, I will be leaving now to seek answers to the reason you are in so much pain and agony. I shall return before you know I am missing. Farewell.'' He then fell on his knees and prostrated completely before his master's sleeping form three times before rising to place a protective magical barrier around his master and left for the Unbridled world.

Her eyes moved underneath her closed lids as she pulled herself out of that long dream she fell into.

Yuerong opened her eyes and the world she stared at was dark before a trail of light seeped through and she was able to make sense of her surroundings. A splitting headache accompanied by a heavy numbness that took over her body from head to toe made her awakening less pleasant than it should be.

The fallen God waited until she could feel her toes and fingers again before slowly rising from the bed.

She closed her eyes briefly at the pain she had to endure as she moved her legs and shivered at the cold feeling of the marbled floors. She stared at every piece of furniture, every painting and even the familiar flowers she had once collected on her travels to multiple realms and thought she was still dreaming.

How was she back here? In her room?

Yuerong brought her hands before her and noticed every scar and wound had disappeared, some barely visible now.

''Wasn't I supposed to be dead?'' The fallen god whispered to no one as the last memory she had was when…

She placed her hand softly at the aching feeling in her heart at the thought of him and what he did to her.

It irked her to the depths of her bones and she immediately wished he were dead.

It was still hard to believe that not only was he a spiteful demonlord now, but the reason she lost everything—-even her life.

Then the girl wondered how she was still alive again. Or maybe she wasn't alive—just trapped in an illusion the moment she gave up.

An illusion created after death.

Gods were never supposed to have two lives; even the chance of reincarnation was not granted to them by the Celestial Space.

Yuerong slowly reached out to one of the flowers placed beside her bed and flinched at how real it felt beneath her fingertips.

She stared at the flower in horror before moving back on the bed and staring around with her mouth slightly open.

My world…

Have I been…reborn?

A chilling sensation traveled through the length of her being, her eyes still wide in disbelief at the possibility. Her memories until her death in her previous life were intact. She could still feel and remember every bit of that devil that broke her heart.

The horrors and last moments before she lost the God Realm in the name of love.

The girl leaned forward, her head lowered in shame as she bit down hard on her lip, hands clenched hard around the sheets of the bed as she would never forget how that bastard made her learn the hard way that she could never be truly loved by him.

A sob escaped her lip as she fought to bottle up her rising emotions. The pain made the persistent headache much more irritable and she felt like dying again.

It wasn't worth living this second life if it only came with heartbreak, pain and regrets.

Not to mention it was because of her the God race was no more and the God seal of the Empress of the heavens was now in the hands of the wicked.

Yuerong cried out as she brought her hands to her face in shame.

This was terrible.

Or had she been brought back to life to reap the consequences of her actions or she had been given a second chance to avenge herself and the heavens?

The girl slowly lowered her hands from her face and wondered why the Celestial Space would break its own rules to revive a sinful God like her and give her another chance.

Yuerong tried to conjure up her magic but failed. She tried several times and realized not only was she a powerless God but all her immortal powers and the essence of her original being were no more.

Fear seized her like a tight grip around her throat when she tried again and again to summon even the littlest bit of her Purple immortal magic and failed.

Yuerong gasped and couldn't breath at the thought of her present situation.

All her powers were gone.

She stared at her palms and the back of her hands in horror and in disbelief.

She could as well be considered as a God who failed to protect everything she once cared for and has been reborn as nothing but a powerless, vulnerable mortal in the immortal realm.

Just when she thought being stabbed in the heart by your lover to death was worse, being degraded to a powerless mortal with the blood of multiple gods who fell to their deaths, dripping down her fingers—a nightmare threatening to haunt her for the rest of her days.

Yuerong shook and trembled as more tears flowed endlessly down her face. She mourned their deaths and never forgot their warnings and how they told her she was going to regret this.

''Ah, Cangmo…'' she whispered brokenly as it was now clear that her life had been completely destroyed because she chose to love him. ''What have you done to me?''

She wrapped her arms around herself, eyes closed in deep regrets and self-condemnation.

'You will never find a true love like mine.'

Her trembling intensified as she felt she was going to burst into a million pieces due to the emotions swelling in her.

' If there will be a second life for Gods like me, I will find you.'

She remembered again. That call for a payback moments before she fell.

'...I will find you.'

'And kill you.'

The girl covered her ears and screamed until the walls around her cracked and the floors under her feet quaked.

She jumped when a spear materialized out of thin air and fell with a loud clang before her.

Yuerong moved back at the sight of the spear and wondered where it came from.

Her tear-filled brown eyes observed the spear and recalled where she had seen such a spear before. It was the very spear the demon, Cangmo used to end her life.

She thought he removed it from her body right before she fell to her death.

How was it now lying down here before her and the tip of the spear was still stained with traces of her blood.

A testament and a reminder to how she was unjustly murdered by the tyrant of her world.

Her first and only love.

Yuerong slowly rose to her feet, sniffed as she reached out for the weapon.

The weapon vibrated with a strange form of life, like it had acquired its own level of consciousness. And what amazed her the most was that the spear vibrated with much of her lost Purple Immortal power.
