Chapter 10 - Backlash

The magical twirl shaped like a miniature tornado kept growing at the tip of his index finger as the Lonely God awaited the demon's answer. He believed his question was a very simple one and not one that should make this demon dare to feign ignorance before him.

The demon thought about it long and hard and had always wondered how their Dark Lord was able to conquer the God Realm differently this time. It was so easy, catching all the Gods by surprise, having this immense supernatural power charging up his veins as they slew every single God with one strike. And the Dark Lord able to murder the Queen of the Gods…almost felt too good to be true by the demon.

''What is your name?''

He stared up at the Lonely God and answered, ''Mo Yue.''

''Mo Yue, I believe I just asked you a very simple question that might change my mind on feeding on your entire cultivation.''

A dark chill traveled down the demon's spine as he began to fidget and fumble under the Lonely God's dark gaze.

''I have no idea how His Darkness—'' the demon screamed when he received an attack that felt worse than being burned alive. His cries echoed throughout the four corners of the hall as he watched the Lonely God conjure up that same magic threateningly once more at his fingertip before rising to his feet.

''Let's try giving me a different answer this time, shall we, Mo Yue?''

The demon's entire body slowly fell to pieces as he tried to withstand the ever–burning feel of the magic he had been attacked with. He watched as the tips of his fingers and palms darkened and the darkness slowly crawled up his arms. That was when the demon realized that he had been poisoned.

He stared up at the God as he unlocked a different kind of fear by merely looking at him. His gaze promised another merciless attack if he did not give him the right answer.

The pressure to say anything that might spare him from this pain weighed down the demon's shoulders as he huffed and cried, tears soiled with the poison streaming down his face.

''We only…camped secretly in the God Realm as the Dark Lord was rescued by the queen of the heavens herself and they got engaged to each other in less than a day.''

The divine golden bow of the Lonely God suddenly materialized in his hands as he drew four magical arrows at once, each burning with everlasting fire.

The demon screamed and tried to break loose from the magic that held him down to his knees. Yaoqin was quick to prevent that from happening and the demon had no choice but to betray his Dark Lord and tell this God everything he knew about the attack.

''I am just a lonely low-ranked soldier of the demon race. I have no idea what his Lordship plans all the time as I am not among the archdemons of the Fourth Realm!'' He screamed at the top of his voice, trembling at the possibility of lying down dead at any given moment.

Baiye tightened his hold around the flaming magical arrows and pulled tighter.

''I really, really have no idea how his lordship succeeded in dethroning and murdering the queen of the heavens,'' he bawled as the tone in his voice pleaded for the god to have mercy on him. ''We just received a message from one of the highest ranking archdemon to attack the Sublime Hall, where all the Gods are gathered for His Lordship's and the queen of the heavens wedding and we did, following orders. The last time I made eye contact with the queen of the heavens was she looked truly betrayed and hurt as she tried her best to save everyone.''

His hold tightened as he waited for that one thing that would encourage him to take this demon's life here and now, without the multiple tortures he had planned before killing him.

''It was also strange how every demon that attacked gained this supernatural strength to be able to fight Gods with hundreds of thousands of years worth of cultivation and magical abilities. And when His Lordship returned and announced that she was dead, I was already brutally injured and stuck under a rubble I managed to crawl out of. I had no idea what happened next except that His Lordship managed to destroy the God Realm and kill the Divine Empress for good.''

Whizz.

Shluk!

Shluk!

Shluk!

Shluk.

Four fiery arrows invaded the demon's vital organs and he collapsed, dying without blinking. The corpse of the demon was then reduced to nothing but ashes that couldn't withstand the slightest breeze of the wind after being subdued by the arrow's fire.

Blood spilled out of his mouth as his divine bow vanished, the Lonely God fell to his knees beside his dark throne for support.

''Master!'' Yaoqin panicked as he ran towards the steps leading to his throne, falling beside his Master's trembling form as he tried to help.

''Master…Master…Master. What happened? Are you hurt? Why are you finding it hard to stand up?!''

It was strange.

His eyes rolled back once more as the pain seized him completely once more was unimaginable.

He never remembered ever getting hurt and…why was it proving so hard to pull himself up and—

The Lonely God let out an agonizing sound—one that couldn't be suppressed or endured as it felt like his chest was being rubbed mercilessly with lava and tiny carnivorous ants were eating up his flesh inside out and crawling under his skin.

The Lonely God spat out more blood, which terrified his divine beast more than anything in his entire life.

In his two hundred years since being rescued from being bullied by other kinds of beasts and willingly agreeing to serve and learn under this mysterious God, he had never seen him so hurt or suffer like this.

This was new as he had always thought his Master was an invincible, indestructible God worthy of the throne of the Supreme Divine.

''M–master, tell me what's wrong? How did you get hurt?'' The divine beast asked as his hold around his master tightened, not ready to let go.

Yaoqin then caught sight of the faint, pulsing glow shimmering non-stop at the nape of his Master's neck. The divine beast looked closely to see a frost-like seal in the shape of a frozen leaf carved at the nape of his master's neck.

The young divine beast frowned as he examined the little curse mark, wondering what it was and what it meant. And how his Master ended up with such a strange mark in the first place.

The divine beast then pulled away, rose to his feet and stood behind his master as he conjured up his divine powers in an attempt to get rid of the mark.

The mere contact of the curse mark with the beast's divine powers only made his Master's condition worse.

Baiye's head lowered as he succumbed to the pain not even he could withstand as more blood spilled out of his mouth and his vision began to blur and his hearing was muffled.

He thought it was too easy for the Celestial Space to let him go without a backlash for bringing a dead God back to life.

''Master!!!!''

Baiye collapsed completely at the foot of his throne, his eyes tightly closed as he got drawn to the darkness of his subconscious.

He wondered what kind of backlash he had called upon his head and how things were going to become for him now that the Celestial Space had joined the list of his growing enemies.
