Chapter 11 - The Gift of Healing

Kaya's bedroom was a sanctuary of soft pinks and warm whites, a reflection of her gentle nature. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air and catching on the delicate lace of her bedspread. Sitting on the edge of her bed, Kaya clenched her (small fists) in her lap, a portrait of nervous anticipation.

Though the purpose was medical, this was the first time she had ever allowed a man into her most private space. It felt… strange. Intimate.

"Just relax. This is all part of the treatment," Leo said, his voice a low, calming murmur as he gently closed the door behind them. He sensed her skittishness, a bird ready to take flight.

He wasn't lying. Not entirely. In Kaya's current frail state, she wouldn't survive the rigorous, hours-long "instruction" he had in mind. The absolute priority was to cure her illness first. The rest of the… process… could follow normally.

"Mmm," Kaya nodded obediently. A faint, rosy blush—a color that had been absent from her face for years—crept up her neck and onto her cheeks, a stark and beautiful contrast to her usual (sickly pallor).

"Mr. Leo… I've seen so many doctors. They all said there was nothing they could do. You… you really have a way?" she asked, her voice a mixture of desperate hope and nervous tension once she'd steadied her breathing.

Leo gave her a reassuring look that promised certainty. His right hand, which had been held casually behind his back, now held a fruit that seemed to materialize from nothing. It was a peculiar green thing, its surface swirled with a spiral pattern. The Heal-Heal Fruit.

Like a magician performing a trick, he presented it to her.

"Mr. Leo, what is this?" Kaya asked, blinking her large, curious eyes.

Leo cleared his throat, adopting a tone of grave seriousness. "Kaya, the truth is, a potent healing power resides within my body. By sacrificing a portion of my own life force, I can manifest this power into a physical form—this fruit. If you eat it, not only will you be completely healed, but you will also inherit this power of healing yourself."

"This specific fruit…" he continued, his voice dropping to a solemn whisper, "cost me five years of my life to create. Please. Eat it."

"Wha—?! Mr. Leo, I could never!" The(kind-hearted) Kaya took his words at face value, immediately waving her hands in refusal. She wanted to be cured more than anything, but never at the cost of harming someone else.

If Nami had been present, she would have facepalmed and muttered, "Such a(naive) girl. So easy to fool."

Leo reached out and gently booped her on the nose with his finger. "Silly. The fruit is already here. If you don't eat it, wouldn't those five years of my life be wasted for nothing?"

Kaya paused, caught in his logic. It… did make a kind of heartbreaking sense.

Seeing her hesitation, Leo pressed his advantage. "Kaya, didn't you say you've always dreamed of healing others? Once you're better, you can use this very power inside you to help people. To save them."

"R-really?!" The words sparked a brilliant light in her eyes. This was her deepest dream, to become a doctor, to (save the dying and heal the injured). This proposition struck directly at the core of her being.

"Of course it's true," Leo affirmed with a firm nod.

"Then… I'll eat it," Kaya said, her voice now filled with resolve. But then she looked at him, her expression pained. "Mr. Leo… I'm so sorry you had to do this for me." The thought of him losing five years of his life for her sake was a heavy burden.

Leo immediately feigned a stern look. "Call me (big brother)."

Kaya was taken aback for a second, then looked down, her voice becoming as soft as a mosquito's hum. "Leo…."

"That's better," Leo said, his expression brightening instantly. He placed the Heal-Heal Fruit into her hands. "Now, eat it quickly."

Trusting him absolutely, Kaya didn't hesitate any longer. She brought the fruit to her lips and took a bite.

"So sweet~" she exclaimed, her eyes widening in surprise. It was the sweetest fruit she had ever tasted.

Leo smiled. The system, of course, had removed all the usual revolting side effects.

The moment Kaya swallowed the first piece of fruit, a unique and potent energy surged into existence within Leo's own body. The ability sharing had taken effect. Just like Kaya, he now possessed the full power of the Heal-Heal Fruit.

Simultaneously, a healthy, rosy glow visibly returned to Kaya's cheeks at an astonishing rate, the sickly pallor vanishing as if it had never been there. Leo could clearly sense her physical strength increasing markedly—a transformation from a frail invalid to a perfectly healthy young woman.

"I'm… I'm really better?!" Kaya whispered, touching her own face in a daze, scarcely believing the change she felt in her very cells. The illness that had plagued her for years was just… gone?

But then she remembered the price. Her expression fell again. Such an immense debt of gratitude… how could she ever repay it? Was Leo truly an angel sent from heaven to save her? He had unmasked the villain Kuro and now had cured her. She looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears.

"Thank you… Leo," she said softly, reaching out and gently guiding his hand to rest against her warm cheek.

A genuinely warm, purely happy smile spread across Leo's face. "This is a happy occasion. Why the tears?" he asked, using his thumb to gently wipe a stray tear from the corner of her eye. "Your illness is completely cured. Now, let's test your new abilities."

Kaya nodded. She understood. The moment she'd eaten the fruit, she'd felt a strange, warm power blooming within her—a tangible force of healing. It was incredible. Leo hadn't lied to her.

At Leo's suggestion, they left the room and headed for the mansion's kitchen. On the way, they ran into Nami and Makino, who had just finished their meal.

The two women did a double-take, their jaws dropping slightly at the sight of Kaya. Her vibrant, healthy complexion was a shocking contrast to the memory of her pale, sickly appearance from just an hour before.

Upon hearing that Leo had indeed cured her, Nami looked at him with a deeply(knowing and suspicious) expression.

Makino, however, blushed and looked down in sudden shame. He really was just healing her, she thought, mortified that her mind had gone to such a… different place earlier.

Driven by curiosity, they followed Leo and Kaya to the kitchen to witness this supposed healing power for themselves.

Leo procured a chicken from the pantry. In one swift, clinical motion, he drew a small knife and made a clean cut on its leg. Blood immediately welled up, and the bird squawked in protest and pain.

Swallowing her instinctive revulsion, Kaya focused. She extended her right hand towards the injured chicken. A soft, warm white light emanated from her palm, enveloping the wound.

A miraculous scene unfolded before their eyes.

Under the gaze of the three astonished women, the cut on the chicken's leg sealed itself up at a visible pace, the skin knitting together until it was perfectly smooth, as if it had never been injured. The chicken itself seemed confused, stopping its squawking to peck at its now-healed leg.

If not for the few drops of blood on the floor, they would never have believed it was real.

After a moment of stunned silence, pure joy erupted on Kaya's face. "Leo, I did it! This power is amazing!" she cried, her face alight with happiness. "Does this mean I can heal any sickness now?!"

Leo nodded, equally satisfied. Then he gave a light, playful laugh. "Don't just focus on taking care of others. You have to remember to take good care of yourself, too."
