Chapter 17 - 017. The Wraiths' Wrath

Mira didn't wait. With Black wings appearing on her back instantly, They flapped once, propelling her forward in a speed that scattered dust.

She crashed into the fused spirit, her hands glowing with that beautiful divine light. "Enough whining!" she snarled, slamming her palm into its chest. The touch burned, holy power clashing with the wraith's earthly grudge; the ghosts screamed as its body unraveled like smoke in wind, the rebar falling to the floor.

Her wings folded back, vanishing into the air as quickly as they had come, leaving her breathing hard, her halo flickering even more than usual now.

"Nice wings," Seed said, yanking his hair back as he thought about the ghosts.

"They weren't wrong, you know," he muttered to himself. "Rest easy now. I'll make sure someone pays for the lies."

They had wished this was the end of the mission but the heart of the site waited—a deep hole at the warehouse's core, edges jagged with exposed rebar like broken teeth.

Dust swirled in a vortex as they approached the pit and from the depths rose the entity: the Builder's Wraith, a hulking ghostly figure stitched from shadows and steel.

Six faces protruded from its torso. the workers, their faces showing rage, mouths open in silent screams, eyes hollow like holes. Rebar arms flexed, concrete chunks for muscles, tools embedded like veins.

"Trespass... build... break..." It stuttered, it's voice a chorus of grief. Beams overhead groaned, tilting like dominoes ready to fall.

Mira charged, her black wings bursting out again, her halo blazing brighter. She soared at a low angle like a comet of pink and golden light, slamming into the wraith's side with a superhuman force.

BAAM!

Her fist connected, mental bent from the force and her divine energy burning the entity's core like acid.

The wraith roared, swinging a rebar arm in a wide arc. Mira twisted mid-air, her wings flapping hard to dodge, but her shoulder got grazed , ripping her uniform and sending her flying into a wall.

Boom!

Dust exploded, and she hit the ground hard, her halo's light getting less brighter. "Bastard," she coughed, pushing up on shaky arms.

Seed's blood ran cold. The Death Prediction flashed in his mind [Mira squashed by beams].

"Hang on!" he yelled, diving forward. The wraith turned, its six faces screaming, and raised its arms. beams creaked above, chains of steel raining down, Seed activated [Death Field] with a thought. His control sharpened and his perception of his surrounding became crystal clear; every spec of dust , every groan of metal, every little movement that happened, he could perceive it.

Death Energy flooded him causing his Ghost Hair to explode outward. Dozens of strands of hair lashing like black whips, grabbing the falling beams mid-air. They wrapped tight, halting the collapse of the beams inches away from Mira's head.

The wraith howled, charging with fists made of rebar and concrete. Seed rolled aside, with his hair retracting, forming a hair-dome to shield him. strands deflecting punches that cratered the floor. "You don't have to do this!" Seed shouted over the roar, empathy fueling his words as the ghosts' faces twisted in pain.

Lies... safety ignored...

our fault, they said...

Retribution .....we will get!

They wailed, their voices cracking through. "I get it," Seed replied, dodging another swing of their fist, his hair coiling to trip the entity's leg. "Companies chew people up and spit them out, You weren't fools. You were wronged." The wraith faltered, its faces flickering, grief cracking its rage.

Mira seized the moment, staggering back to her feet. Her Wings spread fully for one last jump, black and tattered, in one strong flap it carried her up in a gust that scattered the debris around her. She dove like a fallen star, her divine energy wrapping her hands like flames

"Eat this! HOLYYY FIREEEE!!!!" she screamed, slamming both hands into the wraith's chest.

Ka-BOOM!!!

The impact resounding, Shaking the very foundation of the building, her holy fire erupting in a flash of light and shadow, burning through the fused spirits. Their Faces howling in pain one last time.

Free.....finally.....

as the entity convulsed, bars falling, concrete crumbling. It shattered outward in a slow-motion explosion, shards of steel and dust blooming like a flower, six voices, each of the ghost of the workers that had fuse echoed into nothingness.

The confinement around the building and Seed's Death Field dropped. Drops of Rain splattered back in, rushing to fill the silence. Seed coughed, waving dust from his face, his hair settling limply by his shoulders and sweaty. Mira landed beside him, her wings folding away and disappearing, her halo's light stabilising into a soft glow now.

She panted. "I guess you aren't totally useless, old man," she said, smirking despite the sting of the bruise on her shoulder

Seed grinned through the grit, wiping sweat from his brow. "Teamwork, kid. You flew and I lashed out with my hair. Not bad for day one."
