I've been working at his company for a few days now, and everything is going very smoothly. Every morning I take my son to daycare and then I go straight to the company to work.
I don't really care about Tristan's personal affairs, all I can think about is focusing on my work and getting paid to enroll Luke in school.
That morning I prepared everything for today's meeting, and I stood right behind him while taking notes on every single thing the executive officer said in his presentation.
Every now and then I turned to him, his face looked so serious listening to what his own employee was currently saying about his company.
Somehow this reminded me of when we were still in high school, every time I turned to him. He would be very focused on the white board in front of him then suddenly he turned to me and smiled.
I didn't understand why that image kept coming back to my mind, but I was reminded of that day.
"Evelyne!" he called out to me.
I gasped in surprise, waking up from my reverie when he called my name so emphatically. I immediately turned to him, asking what he wanted.
"Did you write down everything he said? I want you to stay focused on your work," he said.
I immediately nodded my head and gave her the notes I had made. "Yes, I've made notes about all the things explained earlier and each point."
Without saying anything, he took the notebook I had been holding and read it.
"Good, your notes look complete and I can read your writing too."
While he was still turning the pages of my notes, one of the executive employees suddenly spoke up.
"Didn't your secretary just work for almost 3 weeks in this company? She seems to be very competent at her job. Doesn't that mean Ms. Moretti is a suitable woman to be in her current job?" he said.
"That's right. I agree with that."
The executive employees who were in the meeting room that day agreed with what one of them said and it was enough to make me feel proud of what I had done.
I knew I shouldn't feel this way, especially since I wasn't someone who liked to receive praise.
However, it meant that my hard work had looked good not only in front of him. But in front of everyone else as well.
However, he didn't make any comments and just kept quiet as he continued to read the note.
After the meeting was over, everyone returned to their respective rooms. I followed Tristan back to his room.
Before I could leave the meeting room, one of the employees who had been in the meeting stopped me and engaged me in conversation.
"You look really great and strong to be able to put up with Mr. Everhart. He's a very cold and strict man. Many can't stand his nature," said the man who was one of the company's HR, Jake Thompson.
I chuckled when I heard that, I'm used to that kind of behavior. Even though he's much colder to me now.
But his strictness and discipline are still the same as before.
We talked about a few things briefly, until suddenly Tristan came up to us.
"Why are you staying here? I'm not paying you to chat during work hours," he said sternly.
"Oh, I just asked Ms. Moretti to have lunch with me. So how about it, would you like to have lunch with me?" asked Jake.
Just as I was about to open my mouth to answer his invitation, Tristan interrupted by saying that I would be very busy at lunchtime.
"She's going to be very busy because I need her. So you won't be able to have lunch with her. Now get back to work before I write your absence as blank today."
Hearing the threat, Jake immediately walked away from the meeting room because he probably didn't want his absence to be considered blank that day.
"You, come with me." Tristan spoke to me and left without waiting for a response from me.
I immediately followed behind him, until we finally entered his office and I closed the door behind me.
I saw him standing right in front of his desk, his back to me.
"You really enjoyed it, didn't you?" he suddenly asked, leaving me confused.
"What do you mean?" I asked him.
He then turned around, looking at me with his piercing brown eyes. The same eyes that Luke had. They really were like a copy of the same thing.
"You enjoy it when Jake asks you out for a chat and also lunch. Do you really like it when a guy asks you out alone?" he asked as he walked closer to me.
Why would he ask me that?
Even if I do enjoy it, what business is it of his?
"That's my personal business. So even if I enjoy it, isn't it nothing to do with you."
But apparently, he wasn't happy with the answer I gave. Although I didn't understand why he was acting like that.
Was he feeling jealous?
"That may be your personal business, but you are mine. You've signed an agreement to be my secretary, that means you're mine," he said in such a cold voice without giving any room to debate this.
"That can't be! I also need someone to talk to, especially since he's also one of your employees in this company. I have to build a good image in front of everyone so that they like me too!" I replied. But again he didn't like it.
He kept walking towards me, forcing me to take a step back. But unfortunately, I bumped into the door behind me.
He slammed his hand into the wall behind me, right next to my head. It was enough to make me flinch in surprise, and I immediately looked at his leaning face.
"You don't need to talk to the other employees. If you want to talk you can talk to me. You can say anything to me, without needing them."
For some reason, my heart seemed to be beating so fast when his face was only a few centimeters away from mine. I could feel his breath on my cheek, and was nostalgic for the past when none of this had happened.
Suddenly, he pulled my chin to keep me looking at him and then he flashed me his mischievous grin.
"Do you understand, Evelyn?"
