Chapter 3 - Unspeakable Reality

Evelyne's POV

It was a really tiring first day of work. I had to do tons of things that he needed, going from floor to floor.

Not to mention I had to contact everyone he had business with, to schedule appointments.

It was enough to make me exhausted and frustrated, let alone having to see him. After 6 years I left without looking back, somehow fate brought us together again.

I know, this must be one of his plans to take revenge on me by accepting me as his secretary.

He indeed never changes, so happy to show how superior he is than others. Only this time, he looked at me with a cold gaze. Just like the last time I remember, when he kicked me out of his house.

And now he already has a partner? I'm really curious, what his fiancé looks like.

Is she pretty? Is she sexy? Is she... She also comes from the same social class as him? Considering his mother hated our marriage so much back then because I was from a standard social class.

"Huft... I'd rather not think about it too much. It's all in the past and it's no longer my business," I muttered as I walked from the bus stop to the daycare not far from my house.

Arriving at the daycare, I saw a black haired boy standing with one of his teacher.

He's been waiting for me since earlier, hasn't he? I don't know why I felt so bad leaving him at the daycare until this hour.

As I walked over, he looked at me and I could see his smile widening as he ran towards me.

"Mommy! Mommy!" he yelled for me.

As he ran with that smile, his face was really very similar to his. So similar to the man who confessed his feelings for me when we were in high school.

Suddenly my tiredness seemed to disappear, and I walked over and knelt down in front of him. He hugged my neck, as blistered as it was heavy as he continued to call out to me.

"Mommy, how's your new job? Is everything okay?" he asked. My beloved son, Luke.

"Hey, mommy boy. My job is going really well and everything is fine. You didn't misbehave at daycare, did you?" I asked as I touched his nose with my finger.

He giggled and shook his head. "No, I didn't. I wasn't naughty at daycare!"

"That's right, Luke is very obedient and also very easy to manage. He's not like other kids who suddenly have tantrums or ask to go home," said the teacher.

I stood up from my kneeling position and thanked her. We said goodbye to go home and would come back tomorrow morning to leave him with them while I went to work.

The two of us walked together until we reached home. Despite feeling tired after working all day, at home I still had to take care of my son. By cooking dinner and helping him to take a bath before finally going to bed.

"Mommy, are you going to work again tomorrow?" Luke asked me as he was enjoying his dinner.

I nodded my head and explained slowly that I had to work every day except on weekends.

"Yes, baby. I have to work every day and you have to be at daycare until I get home. I hope you can be patient waiting for me to come home," I told him while rubbing his head.

Although he nodded in understanding, I could see from the look in his eyes that he really needed me around him. I knew he wasn't even 5 years old yet, and he must really need me by his side every day.

However, I can't stay by his side all the time because I have to work for his sake as well.

He has to go to kindergarten soon and I need money to enroll him.

There are so many things I need money for to raise him alone. But no matter, he's my son and I'll do it without his help.

After finishing dinner, I went to bed with him in his room. Making sure he was fast asleep along with his favorite stuffed dinosaur then I went to my own room.

I checked all my emails, incoming messages and anything else work related. I noted down every schedule that came in for Tristan's benefit tomorrow or the day after.

I know it sounds ridiculous when I have to be my ex husband's secretary. But I have no other choice if I want to raise Luke.

As I was taking notes, my cell phone rang and it was Daniel calling me.

I answer the phone and we have a conversation.

"So you're working under Tristan's control? He must have accepted you on purpose when he saw your application to his company," he told me.

"Yeah, I'm sure it's all like that. But it's okay, being his secretary is enough to support Luke and myself. I should also start looking for a kindergarten for him," I replied while still taking notes on all the schedules that had just come in.

"Alright, I'll accompany you to look for it."

I just nodded softly as I focused on writing on my notebook. Daniel also didn't sound like he was saying anything for a while, until his words suddenly made my hands stop moving.

"Do you intend to tell him that Luke is his son?"

I fell silent as soon as I heard his question. I didn't know what to say, but Daniel also knew that lately Luke kept asking about who his father was.

He did think that Daniel was his father, but I quickly reminded him that he was just a friend to me.

"I don't know. I don't think I'm going to tell him about this."

I was pretty sure that Tristan wouldn't believe me when I said that Luke was his son.

I only found out I was pregnant with his son a month after our divorce. I had intended to tell him first, but I knew Tristan wouldn't believe me. Moreover, his mother would keep telling him that it wasn't his son.

Plus our divorce was due to a misunderstanding about infidelity, Tristan would think Luke was Daniel's son.

"I understand your fear. There's only one step left for Luke to meet his father, but it doesn't seem necessary until they know each other," Daniel said.

"Yes. I heard he also has a fiancée now. I don't want to mess up his life anymore, let alone admit that Luke is his son. I'm sure he'll think I'm crawling back to him knowing he's a billionaire now," I replied.

Finished talking and I've also finished the notes I made, we ended the call to rest.

I lay on my bed, looking up at the ceiling of my room that felt so heavy. My body was tired, but it was only the beginning.

I'm sure right now he must be planning something else to make me regret having done all the things I never even did, until our marriage had to be ruined.
