Chapter 24: The worst Secret Suppliant
After deciding this, Adam sighed softly and decided not to go to the academy or the Spirit Pagoda.
He simply strolled around Aolai City and finally sat in the park, silently gazing at the sky.
Just silence while many other children happily went to school.
Just this once, Adam wanted to rest his thoughts after nearly going crazy last night.
"Oh, right, I can feel the Spectator Beyonder characteristic almost being digested. Just one last step is missing."
Well, this is considered quick because he can't always act as a spectator, observing from afar and watching the actors perform their drama.
Sometimes, he still needs to rationalize himself, cultivate, and do Cogitation to calm himself down.
And even with all that, Adam could feel his Beyonder characteristic just one last step missing.
All of this only took one month after he came to Douluo World.
But right now, Adam put aside thoughts of acting as a spectator or thinking about the little devil who no longer bullied Tang Wulin but still committed crimes in the suburbs and slums.
In this park, only the breeze and the rustling of fallen leaves lingered. A gentle breeze carried a fallen leaf from the tree onto Adam's shoulder.
A spiritual communication came from within his mind, seemingly concerned about his current condition.
"You don't need to worry too much, I'm fine. Just... I just need a little rest and I'll be back to normal." Adam forced a stiff smile onto his face.
The Elder tree fell silent and didn't ask Adam any more questions.
The Elder tree knew Adam was lying and that his mind was full of problems and burdens. As the spirit soul living within Adam's mind island, it knew very well that its partner was only saying that to not worry it.
But it could do nothing. So, the Elder tree simply materialized behind Adam and adjusted its body like a normal tree. Its roots touched Adam's body, allowing him to lean comfortably.
Even if his body is only in a spiritual state right now, that doesn't mean he can't do anything.
"Thanks, I appreciate it." Adam smiled and tightly gripped the root resting on his palm.
Adam slowly closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep. His golden hair fluttered in the air as the breeze brushed past his body.
At least, a sense of peace, even if it's just for a moment.
From a distance, a silver-haired girl, who had just returned from accompanying her brother and was walking through the park where she usually walked, saw something from afar.
A strange tree, unlike any other around it. Its roots seemed to encircle someone she had seen before when she was with her brother.
As she approached Adam, Na'er could see a blonde-haired kid the same age as her brother, and one year older than her.
Unlike her brother, who seemed so strong and had already become an apprentice blacksmith, Adam looked so weak and helpless. His body was slender and elegant, unlike his brother, who was already starting to develop muscle in his arms.
But there was something different about him. Something she couldn't quite put her finger on.
Her perceptions seemed to want to tell her something, but Na'er, who didn't understand, couldn't see where Adam's strangeness lay.
So, she just sat there and looked at Adam from the side.
"I feel like I have to do this. I don't know why, but this is probably his wish?" Na'er muttered softly. Na'er didn't do anything and took out an orange from the small bag Lang Yue had given her.
This was some fruit that suddenly appeared while she was sleeping. She didn't know why there was fruit in her room, but she only heard something. Apples, grapes, oranges, cherries, and even some strawberries.
Previously, she had also received something like candy and chocolate while she slept. But that time, she didn't hear anything and just fell asleep soundly.
But this time, she actually had a dream. A dream of someone who seemed to be calling her.
Someone was muttering words she couldn't understand. A strange language that seemed to be stirring something she didn't understand. But those words made the elementals fear him.
She couldn't see his face or anything, but she remembered his wishes and remembered this was another offering.
Na'er was stunned as she felt the roots of the tree behind Adam wrap around her little white hands and bring them to grasp his.
Na'er didn't refuse because she didn't sense anything amiss from this strange tree. She also somehow felt Adam had no ill intentions, and in her mind, he somehow didn't give her a particularly bad feeling.
She felt like... Adam was her follower?
She didn't quite understand, but this word might be the best way to describe it.
For hours, Adam slept comfortably as he could feel the potions in his body digesting at a rapid speed. A crackling sound echoed through his body as a sign that the beyonder characteristic was being digested.
Adam unconsciously gripped Na'er's hand as it touched his and for some reason felt a deep calm deep within him. Like a fire slowly growing quieter.
As a Secret Suppliant, Adam could be said to be the worst. The worst it can get because he denies the entity that answers his call.
He denies her.
He rejects her.
He calls her a clown.
But in the end, only a pure and clueless entity, unaware of all this, still held the hand of the supplicant before him. Even if she didn't know that the man was Adam.
Adam could feel the last bit of Beyonder characteristic in his body being digested. But the thing is, it's calm and tranquil.
Silence, like a world that has been quiet for a very long time, but there is not a trace of loneliness. Because in his cognitions, there is a ray of light that can never disappear from the depths of his heart.
It took root deep within Adam as the only solace in his world.
"So that's how it is... hahahaha... I really am an idiot," Adam said as he quietly opened his eyes.
The knowledge of mysticism flowed calmly through his head. Now, there was no rejection like last night after he performed the sacrifice ritual. No signs of losing control like before, that would turn him into a writhing flesh abomination.
And in the end, his eyes fell on the little girl sleeping beside him in the tree roots that enveloped them both.
