Chapter 27 - Strings Attached

The car ride home was silent.

Joon-hyuk's jaw was tight, his hand gripping the wheel just a little too hard. "You shouldn't have gone out there with him," he said finally.

She turned, startled. "You were watching?"

His eyes stayed on the road. "You're my fiancée. People notice."

"Funny," she said bitterly. "Now you care what they notice."

He didn't reply, but the tension between them was thick enough to choke on.

When they reached her apartment, she opened the door without looking back. "Goodnight, Mr. Lee."

"Hye-rin."

The way he said her name — low, strained — made her pause.

"Just…" he hesitated. "Be careful around Choi Min-jae. He's not what he seems."

She laughed softly, without humor. "Neither are you."

And then she closed the door.
