Chapter 12 - Richard's disappearance

Celine woke up early the next morning beside Wilfred.

She was not drunk. She knows exactly what happened last night.

"Good morning princess," Wilfred said with a basket filled with different types of breakfast.

She has never felt this kind of relief in her life for a while. "Good morning, Wilfred."She said, smiling.

"I'm just going to take the pancakes. I don't really want to eat much today." She said again.

"Okay make yourself at home. I'll call you when I find other sensitive information." Wilfred said, packing his work briefcase.

"Thank you so much," Celine uttered with a smile on her face. She felt alive as if a huge burden had been taken off her.

She's in love with Wilfred. She wasn't sure before, but now it's very certain.

"I am planning on putting you among our advertising committee since you studied performance art. With this, you can earn more." Wilfred said.

Celine, who didn't see this coming after losing her job as a janitor, was very happy, but at the same time, she felt something was not right.

"I don't mean to be ungrateful but why would I advertise a product that almost got my parents killed? She said.

"I know you're going to say this, but it's just a matter of time before we're done with our investigations," Wilfred uttered.

"Well, I kind of need this job right now because my sister's Prom is in a few months and she needs to slay," Celine said smiling

Her smile carried a huge weight which made Wilfred's heart melt like ice.

Before he left he kissed her on the forehead and was about to leave when Celine dragged him back and kissed him. The room tension was beginning to feel like last night.

"This is so tempting, but I have to leave for work already." He said with a tiny laugh that collides with a smile.

"Yeah sure, I'm so sorry I got carried away," Celine muttered.

"No, baby, it's fine." He perked her and left.

Inasmuch as the morning was beautiful, Celine still had one mission, and that was visiting Dr Richard.

She lifted her lazy self and went home.

Around 12 p.m. that day, she dressed up looking formal and young. People could think she's still in the university with the way she dressed.

"I'm looking for Dr Richard." She said when she arrived at the science lab.

"You don't have his digits? The man with two broken front teeth asked her.

"No, I don't have it, but that's not a problem, right? She asked.

"We haven't seen Richard for the past week now. People said he traveled, some said he's sick, while others said his body was found in Australia. Mr two broken teeth said.

Celine became anxious. Why would Richard be missing?

"Thank you so much, sir, for the information, but can I at least have his digits? She begged.

"Sure, no problem, on his desk over there, you'll see his office card, that's where he kept his digits." He said.

Celine went to his desk to collect the card, but she wouldn't leave without searching for concrete evidence that proves he ran away.

"You know Richard is a very good friend of my father. Yeah, my father is dead, so sad." Celine said to the man trying to blackmail him emotionally.

"Richard has always been like a father to me since my father left. Can I at least check his desk to see if I will find a clue? Celine continued.

"It's none of my business whether you check his desk or not." Mr two Broken Teeth said, knowing fully well that Celine was pretending to care, but deep down, he thought maybe she was a detective or a consultant.

Celine kept on opening books and books from file lockers from lockers. She saw three flash drives, being confused, she took all and left with the three and Dr Richards' number.

She doesn't have a computer but Margaret has one. She didn't see her at home, so she proceeded to take the risk of using Margaret's own without her permission.

She checked the three flash drives, but nothing meaningful that could help their evidence. However, one flash drive was a bunch of memories between Dr Richard and her father.

"But daddy didn't have friends." She whispered to herself.

According to the picture, Dr Richard and her father were very close; they both attended the same high school and college.

She kept on viewing pictures until she heard the door open. She quickly removed the flash from the drive and his it for Margaret not to see it.

"Hey sis. You were not here last night but that's by the way. I just wanted to say that I'm very sorry for the way I responded to you yesterday about Daddy's case." Margaret said.

"You don't have to be sorry, I shouldn't go on with stuff like that without telling you first. I should be apologizing." Celine said.

"Promise me that you're not going to investigate again, just drop it please. Daddy is dead, even if he isn't; he left us, which means that he's dead to me." Margaret pleaded.

"I promise," Celine uttered. She's never going to drop the case if not for her Dad but for her mum and other children who will also be affected by it.

" Celine. Maybe I can start working at Mr Cole's convenience store part-time since you lost your job." Margaret said.

"No….no. All I need you to do is sit down and focus on your studies, no jobs please. and... I just got promoted, which means I'm no longer working with the janitors, I'm now working in the advertising sector ." Celine said.

"Oh my goodness, what took you so long to tell me this? This is such great news." Margaret said and hugged Celine tightly.

Margaret is the only sibling Celine had and she doesn't joke with her happiness. All her hard work and endless struggle are for her mum, whose case is getting worse at the hospital, and Margaret, who is still on her side.

Miss Sinclair got home from work that day feeling exhausted. She removed her brown high heels and sat down tired.

Looking on the floor she saw the flash drive lying helplessly.

"Wilfred music has kept this here." She said, picked it up, kept it on top of her bed, and proceeded to take a shower.

While taking her bath, she thought of how Wilfred was so curious about those files. In order not to think too much, she picked the flash drive, tucked it beside her computer, and waited for a few minutes before a file popped up. She clicked it and was shocked.
