Chapter 11 - Love within

"Can you at least eat your food first? Wilfred said, wondering about the level of curiosity that ties Celine, Why is she so focused on investigating this issue?

"I didn't come to eat but thanks for your meal," Celine said.

"The truth is that I don't know anybody, former or currently still working in the company, with that name, Dr Richard." He said.

Celine, without giving much thought, brought out the chemical report and the bank statement paper.

"How does a doctor's signature appear on a bank statement? she asked.

"Where did you get that from? Wilfred blurted.

"Ohhh…I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I found out about your sweet little games. She smirked.

"First, you planned with Sinclair to collect the files, then you went to Sinclair's house, trying to play a hero, meanwhile you changed some things," Celine said with a shaky voice.

Wilfred was speechless. He wondered how she found out that some papers in the files were missing, but at the same time, he felt like Celine was being ungrateful.

"Do you think I don't know what you're also up to? You're investigating the company's chemical products and your father's disappearance, Wilfred snapped.

"I see the way you look desperate and curious whenever you ask me questions, and yet I choose a way to reply to you despite knowing you're against my company, and what do I get for being such a nice person? Wilfred continued.

"Wait…. maybe I'm not getting things right. You know exactly what I was planning, why didn't you stop me? Celine asked.

Wilfred sat down on his cushion, and he bent his head in despair.

"Because I'm a victim. My mum died of uterine cancer caused by the same products my dad produces. He cried.

Celine became dumbfounded, seeing your mum die of cancer at a young age is painful, but dying because of your father's greed is worse. She really felt for Wilfred.

"So, since you know about this, why didn't you say a word? Why didn't you raise an alarm? Children are still using these products, and you're covering it up." Celine came closer and sat beside Wilfred to console him.

" I tried at first but my life was threatened," Wilfred said in despair.

"My father has a bunch of shareholders and investors who invest in the growth of the company. One of them is Mr Raymond, the father of Miss Raymond Sinclair," He said.

"I saw his picture one day at the company when I was still working in the administrative center," Celine remembered.

"He is one of the power holders there. Nobody messes with him and goes Scott-free. I personally think that's why your father disappeared and I do everything within me to protect you." Wilfred blurted.

"I'm sorry if I made you feel I wasn't grateful for your help. I just felt like you were blocking my chances of finding out the truth." Celine said.

This incident made Celine feel comfortable discussing the case with Wilfred because he was also deeply affected by it plus he's the only way to get to the root of it because he's currently the company's CEO.

"I took this report to Dr Richard, who confirmed that the chemicals were bad. He also said that he did the report for my father a long time ago but I think he's working in the company." Celine said.

"Or maybe he's working as a non-exclusive staff," Wilfred said as if the answers to Celine's questions flashed to his memory.

"The signature in the paper is a fake signature that the company uses in any of its illegal activities. Since you said Dr Richard made this chemical report for your father means that he wants your father to go on with the investigation." He continued.

"Richard is a very good friend of my Dad. Maybe he works with them but he doesn't want my dad to know and still doesn't want to report him to the shareholders." Celine added.

"And when he noticed things were getting worse, he planned for your dad to escape and travel far away," Wilfred said.

"Wait…..which means Dr Richard knows exactly where my Dad is. And that explains why he told me to be careful that my dad wouldn't want this." Celine muttered, she immediately felt a sharp shock in her heart.

"Daddy is alive." She whispered, but Wilfred could hear her clearly.

He came closer and grabbed her arms.

"It's going to be alright." He consoled her.

The night was cosy and calm, the Mac and cheese Wilfred prepared was on the dining table, and Celine sat in one corner of the living room.

"Hey. Did you rest well? Wilfred asked, giving her a hot coffee he had just made for her.

Celine slept under Wilfred's shoulders after the incident. She woke up and saw herself covered in a thick blanket.

The movie playing on the television screen was the only noise you could hear. Neither Celine nor Wilfred was paying attention to the movie.

Celine leaned her head on Wilfred's shoulder. The tension between them seems so tight.

Celine no longer sees Wilfred as her boss and Wilfred doesn't see her as a staff member anymore. The connection between them seems closer than before.

Wilfred made an adjustment and placed his hand on Celine's shoulder. Celine, not being sure of what she was about to do, boldly took the first step and kissed Wilfred on the lips.

It felt like a child who tasted candy for the first time.

He kissed back and they kissed slowly. This is a kind of feeling he hasn't felt with any woman before, not even Sinclair.

Her scent filled all over Wilfred's body while he gently undressed her. They left the sitting room for Wilfred's bedroom.

"Are you sure about this? Wilfred asked and Celine nodded.

The moment Celine never saw coming. This unlocked their hidden feelings for each other.

Celine enjoyed every bit of what happened that night, but she still doesn't trust Wilfred with her hundred percent trust.

Did she love him? Yes

But she is not sure Wilfred is telling the truth. Before any other lustful mistake, she needs to hold her own investigations first.
