Chapter 10 - Dr Richard

Wilfred gathered the rest of the files and left Sinclair's house, leaving her keys behind with her gatekeeper.

Unknown to him, a small flash drive fell off inside Sinclair's house while he was leaving.

Celine, still pacing around her house, remembered what she said earlier. "I love you." She exclaimed in disappointment.

"How could I tell him that? She said to Margaret.

"The poor girl fell in love with the rich CEO." Margaret teased.

Celine was so ashamed of herself, "I can't be in love with that man, God forbid." She muttered.

"But it's not weird saying that to someone right? I mean "Love your neighbor as yourself is in the ten commandments." Celine gasped.

Just as she was having the romantic conversation with her sister a text message popped up.

"Miss Celine Johnson, we are so sorry to announce that you'll no longer be a member of the management staff..."

"Did I just lose my job! Celine screamed.

Mr Wilfred entered and saw Celine screaming, "What happened, my dear?" He asked.

"That loser Sinclair or whatever she calls herself got me fired," Celine exclaimed.

"Okay, calm down. I'll get this fixed, but before then, here are your files." He said, handing over the files to her.

"Did you open it? Celine asked.

Wilfred, on hearing this question, was shocked. He froze for a moment and then proceeded to answer.

"No." He lied.

"I'll call Sinclair later to know why she dismissed you." He said again.

To prevent further questions, he left her house.

Celine was not so sure about Wilfred's answer to her question. She proceeded to open the files.

"A lot has changed here." She said to herself.

First, the letter of resignation was more than one. Some pictures of her father that were tucked inside are nowhere to be found.

"How come?" She uttered.

"What are you looking for?" Margaret asked when she saw Celine going through pages of old papers.

"Ummm….. It's ermm...some files…..yes, some files from the office. I want to return them, you know, they fired me, so I'm returning some ermmm…" Celine stammered.

"Cut the pretense, Celine. I see the way you have been behaving recently. It's as if you're investigating something or you're planning something you don't want to share with me." Margaret blurted.

"I was going to tell you okay….I'm just waiting for the right time…..

"I said stop pretending," Margaret screamed, interrupting Celine.

"Okay…I'm investigating Daddy's case." Celine said.

"Celine please stop, please can you just stop right now. I don't have a father, my father left when mum was pregnant, so please drop this case." Margaret said with a pack of tears in her eyes that is ready to fall out soon.

"I know but what if he's still alive?

What if he didn't leave you?

What if someone was threatening his life, then he was to leave to protect us? Even if he's dead, what if they killed him? Celine said crying with her sister.

The morning was cold. They didn't speak to each other. Celine suddenly felt too weak to even look at the files. She sat down on the balcony of their apartment, staring at the tree opposite.

"Or maybe I shouldn't have investigated this whole thing in the first place." She whispered to herself.

Just before she could say another word she remembered something.

"The chemical report. She said out loud and rushed inside.

She remembered something. The signature in the chemical report is the same as the signature in the bank statement.

Dr Richard said he did the chemical report, which means his signature is in the report.

To be sure she's not imagining things, she grabbed the chemical reports and the bank statements. This time around she entered the toilet to avoid drama from Margaret.

"I said it." She snapped when she noticed that they had the same signature in them.

She picked up her phone immediately to call Mr Wilfred.

Mr Wilfred, on the other side, was confronting Sinclair about firing Celine from the company.

"Ohh she's calling you again!!! Sinclair said when Wilfred's phone, which was on the table, rang.

"I am the chief executive officer of this company and I'm telling you to give her back her job." He said ignoring Celine's call.

"Funny enough, I'm the one doing all the work, that means you don't have a say, all you do is sit down and bear the name," Sinclair responded.

Celine called again, and this time around, Wilfred did not ignore it.

He picked up his phone and left Sinclair's office.

"Why do you always call at the wrong hour?" He said.

"Please, I need some information from you. She said,

Wilfred was afraid. What if she has found out what he did to those files??

"What is it? He gathered enough courage and asked.

"We can talk maybe at your place." The message sounds creepy, but Celine said it anyway. She didn't want Margaret noticing anything again.

"My place? Wilfred said.

"I don't mean it weirdly, but I can't really talk to you on the phone." Celine pleaded.

Wilfred loved the idea of meeting up with her at his house because the last time he did, they ended up almost kissing.

"Ok let's meet up then." He said.

A few hours later, Celine stood at Wilfred's doorstep, her heart pounding as she waited for him to open the door. She had no idea how the night would end, but one thing was certain she needed answers.

"I made dinner." Wilfred broke the silence, which was deafening.

"Who is Dr Richard?" She asked as if the word was forced out of her mouth.
