Chapter 1 - Prologue

After being unconscious for thirty minutes, Sherryn slowly opened her eyes.

"Ugh… my head…" she murmured weakly.

Her head felt heavy, her vision blurred. Her eyelids fluttered, trying to regain focus.

In the dimly lit room, illuminated only by the moonlight streaming through a large window, shades of violet and blue painted the air tranquil, yet haunting.

Right in front of that window stood a tall, broad shouldered man, his back facing Sherryn. He wore a long black coat that draped down to his calves. He stared silently at the night sky, where the full moon shone in perfect brilliance, his silhouette exuding both strength and unspoken fury.

Even in the faint light, Sherryn had no trouble recognizing him.

That aura, that familiar build, she knew them all too well.

Yes… it was Eilghy.

The man who had always been so close to her.

Sherryn sat on a single chair placed in the middle of the room. When she tried to move her hands, they felt heavy bound tightly behind her back. Her legs too… shackled.

She lowered her head, strands of her hair fell, shadowing half of her face.

"Let me go," she said weakly, yet sharply.

Eilghy didn't respond right away. After a pause, he turned around slowly and said,

"I only wanted to talk to you."

His voice was cold and flat.

"There's nothing to talk about," Sherryn replied.

"Hahaha…" Eilghy let out a bitter laugh, a cruel grin curling on his lips. His sharp blue eyes glimmered faintly the edges reddened, reflecting deep disappointment and anger.

Each step of his polished shoes echoed against the floor, his formal suit and tie contrasting the chaos raging within him.

Tak… Tak… Tak…

The sound of his footsteps drew nearer.

"You always say 'there's nothing to talk about,' as if you've never done anything wrong to me," he said as he walked closer.

"Sherryn Zesa Felsgray… I only wanted to know why. I'm sure this isn't what you truly wa—"

"Enough!" Sherryn cut him off sharply. "This was my choice! Everything that happened was my decision!"

Her voice trembled but was firm, her eyebrows furrowed, her head lifted to face him. Her beautiful face flushed red, fighting back tears.

Eilghy lowered his gaze, his voice breaking.

"If that's true… then why did you make me fall in love with you? And yet, suddenly, you got engaged to another man right before my eyes, using your real identity."

Sherryn's eyes drifted to the floor. "Because… I love him," she whispered.

Eilghy stepped closer, standing right in front of her. His veined, elegant hand reached out and lifted her chin, forcing her to look at him.

"You've always been with me," he said. "How could you love someone you barely even know?"

"I knew him even before I met you!" she answered, meeting his gaze fiercely.

"Am I that meaningless to you? Was I never worthy of your love?" His voice trembled, his eyes glistening red.

"Eilghy Von Dyroon!" she shouted. "I've told you countless times, don't ever fall in love with me!"

Eilghy brushed his black hair back, exposing his perfect forehead as he let out a bitter sigh.

"Haah… Have you ever had your life stolen from you? Have you ever been betrayed by someone who meant everything to you? When I found out who you really are, did you even think about how shattered I was?"

"Tell me, Sherryn… do you even have a heart?"

His voice shook with restrained rage, his expression torn between pain and fury.

Sherryn knew this confrontation was inevitable. She felt guilty broken, even watching him like this.

Holding back tears, she turned her gaze away.

"I warned you," she said softly. "You were the one who chose to love me. If you hadn't, you wouldn't have had to suffer like this."

Eilghy's eyes welled up. Tears finally fell as he whispered,

"Do you think I can control how I feel? If I could, I'd rather kill you… than love you."

Hearing his trembling voice, so full of sorrow, Sherryn could no longer stop her own tears.

Trying to fight her guilt, she forced herself to speak,

"Yes, I was wrong… but it's not too late for you to start over to find someone who can truly make you happy."

Her tears glistened under the moonlight.

Eilghy's heart sank deeper. Her words only confirmed it she truly didn't care anymore.

"Fine," he said coldly. "Then there's no point in keeping you here."

He took a step back.

"And if that's how you feel…"

"Then maybe… we should both die here. And start something new together."

Suddenly, Eilghy pulled out a gun from his coat and aimed it straight at Sherryn.

Her eyes widened in shock.

Thump… Thump… Thump…

Her heartbeat raced violently.

She knew Eilghy was reckless but she never thought he would go this far.

The tension thickened. The air grew heavy and cold.

Eilghy stood tall, gun in hand, his expression a mix of rage and heartbreak.

As if stirring a shiver that made her blood boil, the situation she now faced reminded Sheryyn of a past tragedy that traumatized her to the point of losing her identity.

Will this life she hates end as tragically as the "event" that made her hate life itself?

And Sherryn wondered in terror…

Would he really pull the trigger?
