Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

Monday Morning at Brightern Headquarters

Click… Clack…

Click… Clack…

The rhythmic sound of keyboards filled the air inside the General Management Department.

It was a bright Monday morning in the towering and magnificent Brightern building.

The wide, spotless rectangular room had a large window opposite the entrance, with eight work desks spaced apart. Each employee sat focused on their screens, creating a peaceful and productive atmosphere.

"Ugh~ Dahye~ I'm so sleepy, even after drinking coffee," said Jesie to her coworker beside her, stretching her arms lazily.

"Maybe you didn't sleep enough last night," Dahye replied without looking away from her monitor.

"You're right! I only got home at 2 a.m. after a date with my boyfriend!" Jesie said dreamily, her voice full of excitement as she recalled last night.

…Dahye didn't respond again; she simply kept working.

"Oh right, isn't today the first day of the new VGM?" Jesie asked.

"It should be. The Vice General Manager position's been vacant for a month now. I feel bad for GM Tom and his secretary, Rose, they've been swamped with work, even on weekends." Dahye replied.

Vice General Manager (VGM)

General Manager (GM)

Suddenly, Linda chimed in from across the room, "Hey, I heard the new VGM graduated from Xayldor University!"

Dahye turned to her with a look of surprise and excitement.

"Really? That means they must be super smart and rich! Only geniuses from wealthy families can get into Xayldor!"

Xayldor University was an elite international institution overseas, renowned for its brilliant professors, strict systems, and nearly impossible entrance standards.

It was known that only the rich and the exceptionally gifted could survive there, as tuition fees were astronomical.

To enter Xayldor meant one thing: being both intelligent and wealthy beyond measure.

It was every ambitious person's dream school and Dahye was no exception.

"Hmm… Seems like it," Linda replied. "After all, they've already become a VGM at such a young age."

"Now I'm curious what they're like!" said both Dahye and Jesie in unison.

Just then, Linda happened to glance toward the glass door. Two people were approaching.

"Eh!! That must be them!!" Linda exclaimed.

Everyone in the room immediately stood up to greet the newcomers.

Through the door walked GM Tom, followed by a beautiful woman with a slender figure and fair skin. She wore a beige formal suit, her long ash-brown hair cascading down gracefully. She looked like a goddess radiant and elegant.

"Good morning, everyone. Please welcome our new Vice General Manager, VGM Sher! This is the General Management team who'll be working closely with us," GM Tom announced with energy.

"Hello, good morning everyone!" the woman greeted warmly.

"I'm Sherryn Waserley, your new Vice General Manager. Please take care of me, I look forward to working with you all!" she said cheerfully, waving one hand with a bright, friendly smile.

Everyone welcomed her with excitement and admiration, especially impressed by how graceful and glowing she looked.

The General Management Team consisted of eight members, but today only seven were present. GM Tom's secretary, Rose, had been on leave for two days due to illness.

That day's introductions included four women and three men.

After everyone took turns introducing themselves and their roles, Sherryn quietly observed.

(Even at a glance… Jesie, Dahye, and Linda seem the most dominant among them. Though, the rest aren't exactly the quiet type either, she thought to herself.)

GM Tom also introduced her to other staff and gave a brief overview of Brightern's company culture, though not in too much detail.

Later, Sherryn began working in her own office, following GM Tom's directions.

The room was spacious, with a minimalist sofa in front of her desk, luxurious enough for a Vice General Manager.

But then again, Brightern was an international-level corporation. Premium facilities for executives were no surprise.

Sherryn worked diligently, carefully studying document after document. She focused intently, determined to understand every part of her new role.

Before she knew it, time had flown by the clock showed 8 p.m.

At Brightern's headquarters, employees had flexible hours they could come and go as they pleased, as long as their work was completed properly. The same rule applied to Sherryn, even on her first day.

GM Tom had given her a set of work instructions in a detailed manual.

If she didn't understand something, she could ask directly in his office, but the document was so precise and well-written that Sherryn had no trouble at all.

(Despite his relaxed and slightly chubby appearance, GM Tom's incredibly detail-oriented. His documents are so neat and easy to follow), Sherryn thought, smiling faintly.

That day, she hadn't brought her car yet, since she was still deciding which one to buy.

(Ugh… I still haven't told Mrs. Jullie which car I've chosen. I'll just wait for her to pick me up. Maybe I'll head down and wait at the front she should arrive soon anyway.)

After packing up her things, Sherryn left her office and walked casually toward the front entrance.

Outside, the night view of Brightern's front plaza was beautiful glistening after a recent rain, the cool air adding a calm, soothing mood.

She stood at the waiting area near the main road, glancing around. A sleek black car approached the street in front of her.

Sherryn instinctively stepped back a few paces to avoid being splashed by puddles even on clean, well-paved roads, some water always found its way up.

Vroooom!

Suddenly, the car sped past, splashing a burst of cold water right onto her.

Completely shocked and furious, Sherryn snapped her head toward the car.

Through the window, she caught a glimpse of the driver — a man — and muttered in anger under her breath,

"That man…!!"
