Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Jason Wants to Go Solo

Dane ignored Clark and turned his gaze to Jason.

"Your wounds should heal very quickly, don't worry. What you need most now is rest."

Jason looked at the bed next to him. "And she…"

"Her injuries are less than a tenth of yours; she'll recover even faster than you."

Jason relaxed, then looked at Clark.

"May I ask, what happened to the Joker?"

Clark scratched his head, a little embarrassed. "He escaped."

Jason clenched his fists.

Dane also looked at Clark with some surprise, his eyes seeming to ask, 'How did you let him escape?'

Clark was a little annoyed. "That criminal is very cunning!"

He carefully explained the Joker's ruthless and decisive actions, how he cruelly abandoned all his subordinates as pawns to attract Clark's attention.

Dane couldn't help but sigh after hearing it. He truly lived up to his reputation as the "greatest" villain in the Real World. Look at his decisiveness.

He guessed that after escaping, the Joker wouldn't hide; he probably went to play with Batman again.

Besides Batman, everyone else was just an appetizer in his eyes.

Thinking of this, Dane snapped his fingers.

"Cortana, take over the satellite signal and find me some local Gotham news."

"Okay, Dane."

Cortana was very obedient and completed the task in a few seconds.

Clark hesitated, "Isn't that… illegal?"

Dane feigned ignorance. "Is that so? I, a 'God,' don't understand human laws."

Clark was speechless.

Jason and Batman often did such things, so he didn't mind, but he was curious about Dane calling himself a "God."

Soon, a virtual screen unfolded in mid-air, displaying footage from local Gotham news.

The footage was clearly shot from a helicopter, and following the spotlight, everyone clearly saw a pitch-black war vehicle careening through the city streets.

It had destroyed countless buildings and facilities along the way, and the reporter in the news was strongly condemning such behavior.

Clark frowned.

Dane felt nothing; this scene was nothing compared to the building demolition in "man of steel."

Then came even more explosive footage: the Bat-vehicle began to transform, extending a "Big. Fucking. Gun" from its middle. With a roar of the cannon, the sports car in front instantly broke down.

"That car is cool! I need to get one if I get the chance!"

Dane was as excited as if he were watching an action movie, but Clark's face didn't look so good.

"This could easily harm innocent people."

Jason, however, was expressionless.

Batman dragged a figure from the overturned car, and Jason's pupils suddenly contracted—it was the Joker!

"It seems he wants to avenge you."

Dane smiled meaningfully.

Jason thought so too. He saw Batman punching the Joker again and again, and he had to admit he was touched.

But Bruce didn't succeed. In fact, it would be simple for Batman to kill the Joker; there was no need for such a brutal method.

Perhaps in his heart, he also hoped Gordon could arrive in time to stop him, but when he saw the Joker being taken away by the police yet again, Bruce couldn't help but start to doubt himself, questioning his own justice. Did any of this truly have meaning?

Jason was also very disappointed to see the Joker escape Death once more. After this incident, his view of criminals like the Joker changed dramatically.

They should die! Not go to Arkham.

That mental hospital was just an amusement park for people like the Joker; he could come out whenever he wanted and then cause immense harm to innocent people.

Bruce was wrong!

Jason was no longer the Robin of the past. It was imaginable that he would find it difficult to continue agreeing with Batman's "no-kill" principle.

"What are your plans next?" Dane asked.

Jason was a little lost. "I don't know either."

He had been living on the streets since he was very young. His father had abandoned the family, and his mother, overwhelmed, had also left him.

Before he met Bruce, he could only survive by stealing. One day, while Batman was fighting crime, Jason stole the wheels from the Bat-vehicle.

Bruce noticed his talent because of this and began to pay attention to him.

After some trials, Jason eventually took over from Dick to become the second-generation Robin.

He and Batman always had differences in their views on criminals.

Jason lived at the bottom of society and had witnessed criminals' incorrigibility, advocating for their complete eradication.

But under Batman's firm insistence, he was never able to get his way.

This incident with the Joker made him realize that if he continued to work with Batman, such things would definitely happen again in the future. His identity as Robin had been exposed, and he could no longer operate under that name.

Jason Todd wanted to go solo!

At this moment, Jason turned his attention to Dane and Clark.

"Who exactly are you two?"

Dane and Clark exchanged glances, as if they had reached some agreement.

"Our true identities cannot be revealed casually. I believe you understand the significance of doing so."

Jason thought of himself and nodded in agreement.

"Simply put, this hero who saved you and your mother is from outer space. The place we are standing now is their family's ancestral spaceship."

"I believe you've already witnessed his abilities. He's invulnerable to blades and guns, immune to Water and Fire, runs faster than a locomotive, and flies higher than an airplane."

"Besides that, he can also see through things, emit high-heat rays from his eyes, take a deeper breath than a whale's lung capacity, and the wind he exhales turns into ice, freezing everything it touches…"

Dane listed them off like precious treasures, and Jason was already stunned. Is this really still a human being?

Clark couldn't listen anymore. He quickly interrupted Dane.

"Exaggerated, exaggerated. The earlier parts are fine, but I really can't do that last part about the ice breath."

"Oh? You haven't learned it yet?"

Dane said in surprise, then waved his hand. "It's only a matter of time. If it's really not working, I can help."

Jason was numb. So, all those things about X-ray vision and heat vision were real?

He looked at Dane. This burly man looked taller than the Superman next to him; he shouldn't be an ordinary person either, right?

At this time, Clark had not yet reached the peak of his height; he was slightly shorter than Dane, who had been boosted to his peak by the Shazam Force.

"Then, who are you?"

Clark seemed to find his opportunity and spoke before Dane.

"The one before you is a true 'God.'"

"What. The. Fuck?" Jason looked at Dane in shock again.

"Correction, I should be considered a 'Demigod.'"

Only the unity of "power" and "force" can be called a true God. Dane only possessed the "force of a God" but not the "power of a God," so he couldn't be considered a complete God.

He was currently similar to a demigod like Gilgamesh; in terms of combat ability alone, slaying a few deities would be effortless.

But he couldn't perform operations like "resurrection" or "creation of life"; he didn't have that authority.

Jason suddenly received all this information, and his mind was a bit chaotic. He wanted to calm down and process it.

Dane patted his shoulder understandingly.

"I know you can't accept all this at once. Take your time. This World hasn't changed; it has always been this way."

"It's just that you now know more truths than you did before."

"Look on the bright side, Batman still doesn't know anything yet. What do you think his expression will be one day when he learns the truth of this World?"

Jason tried to imagine it. Just thinking a little, he found the scene somewhat amusing.

Realizing he had laughed, Jason paused for a moment and sincerely said to Dane, "Thank you."

Dane smiled without speaking. He had already seen that after this incident, Jason probably wouldn't meet Batman so soon.

Like Nightwing, he already had the idea of going solo.

He still remembered Nightwing's deafening words in the U.S. drama "Titan": "Fuck. Batman!"

Although this World's Jason didn't die, it seems Red Hood would still emerge.

It was just a shame that Arkham Knight would probably be hard to see.

He generally supported Jason's choice. Some scumbags were best killed off, simple and efficient.

A World like DC indeed needed a character like Punisher to deter criminals.

Dane and Superman couldn't do this casually because, with their abilities, once the boundary for killing was crossed, it would be easy to develop a mindset of disregarding human life.

This World was like paper not only in Superman's eyes but also in Dane's.

And Batman, who had the ability to do such things, was a bit conflicted. This situation would probably take some time to change.

Dane didn't forget that in "BVS," Batman showed no mercy when killing mercenaries!

"For now, you should rest and recover on the spaceship. After the commotion dies down, then consider where to go."

Jason didn't object. He said to Dane,

"Mr. Shazam, about me being alive, can you please not tell Batman for now?"

"Just call me Shazam. No problem. You are perfectly free to choose when to tell him."

Jason expressed his gratitude again. He began to feel that Dane was the one in charge here.

Dane offered a few more words of concern, then left with Clark.
