Chapter 179 - Let’s Make a Promise

Crying was probably the only way for the fourteen-year-old girl to vent her emotions; the mutated spider crawled onto Penny's shoulder, trying to wipe away Penny's tears, but her spider legs weren't long enough.

Just then, Eller handed her a tissue and helped Penny wipe away her tears. "Do you feel much better after crying it out?"

Eller didn't criticize Penny much; after all, she was fighting demons at fourteen, while he was still brawling in an orphanage at that age.

"I feel a little better." Penny wiped away her tears, but she still couldn't stop sobbing.

"Alright, Penny, you don't need to panic about future battles." Eller said softly, "I'll fight with you. As long as you trust your partners, you'll see the dawn of hope."

Penny tried her best not to sob. She lifted her tear-filled big eyes and asked Eller, "Can I trust you, Big Brother?"

After seeing the prophecy, Penny knew she might die in the battle with the Twin Demons. Even if Mei and Uncle Ben kept saying it was just a prophecy and might not fully come true, Penny was still afraid.

So, when Eller appeared, the child transferred her missing sense of security to Eller.

"Of course, little hero Penny." Eller smiled and extended his pinky finger, saying to Penny, "Let's make a promise: in the battle the day after tomorrow, I will protect you even if it costs me my life."

Penny was startled and asked, puzzled, "But Big Brother, you don't have an obligation to risk your life for me, do you?"

"Just consider it my willfulness." Eller still had a smile on his face.

"Willfulness?"

Eller explained, "Doesn't one's life all start with willfulness? I fight according to my own will, and I can also willfully make a promise."

"Big Brother, you live so well, doing whatever you want." Penny said enviously.

"You can too, Penny." Eller encouraged Penny in his own way to bravely take that step:

"Starting with letting a stranger gamble their life for you, even if the consequences are unpredictable, you must continue. Don't mind what others think; you are just Penny Parker, not the superhero protecting Third New York City."

"Is this willfulness?" A flash of light burst from Penny's eyes, and then she reached out her hand, linking her pinky finger with Eller's.

"Then we've made a promise, but I want to add a condition."

"Go ahead." Eller said indulgently.

"That is, I will also gamble my life for you." Penny Parker said firmly, "After all, this is Penny Parker's willfulness!"

"Alright, alright, you little kid, you've learned to extrapolate." Eller smiled contentedly.

As the sun set, the two shadows, one large and one small, grew longer and longer until night completely enveloped the land.

................

Time passed quickly, and the day the Twin Demons were prophesied to appear arrived. Penny put on her spider-mech, ready for battle, and Eller, wearing his modified Green Demon Armor, stayed by her side.

"Don't be nervous, Penny, I'll lead this battle." Eller said confidently.

The two of them were standing on top of the Empire State Building at this moment, their excellent vantage point allowing them to spot the enemy at the first possible moment.

"It's fine, I'm not scared." Penny seemed to have become invisibly more optimistic.

Just then, Uncle Ben, who was in the command center, sent a message, "Two high-energy readings have appeared in Central Park. The Twin Demons are coming."

"We're on our way." Eller replied, then took Penny with him to Central Park.

Some time later, in Central Park, Third New York City, two figures dressed in aristocratic attire appeared in the park. They stood on a Gothic-style building in the park, concentrating on sensing the location of the Spider-Powered individual.

"Brix, I feel the Spider-Powered individual approaching here." The white-haired woman holding two gold-inlaid Nepalese Kukri knives said to the white-haired man.

The white-haired man held two 'revolvers'. He smiled slightly, revealing fangs like a Vampire. "Yes, Bora, I feel it too. Look, they've arrived."

As he spoke, two mechas landed in front of them, it was Eller and Penny who had come to meet the challenge.

White hair, aristocratic attire, fangs... Eller recognized the identities of these two. They were Brix and Bora of the Inheritors Family, a pair of twins, but the two looked so indistinguishable in gender that Eller couldn't tell which one was older for a moment.

"Penny, do as we practiced in the special training, don't rely too much on your Spider-Sense." Eller gave Penny a final reminder, then rushed forward.

While the Inheritors Family twins hadn't arrived, Eller gave Penny temporary special training to help her get used to fighting without Spider-Sense.

"I understand." Penny responded, then launched her attack after Eller.

"They even brought a helper?" Brix showed a wicked smile, then raised his gun and fired. Bora also seized the opportunity to move, "Looks like it's going to be more interesting."

This was a two-on-two battle, and it seemed like no one was at a disadvantage. Eller and Penny were able to fight back and forth with the Inheritors Family twins for a while.

As time went on, Eller even led Penny to gain an advantage, and the Inheritors Family twins also recognized Eller's importance.

"Take out this purple-green guy first!" Brix unleashed all his firepower on Eller, special solid bullets leaving craters on the Green Demon Armor, while Bora forced Penny back with a horizontal slash, then transformed into a flash of lightning and attacked Eller.

Screech—

Accompanied by dazzling sparks, a huge gash was cut across the chest of the Green Demon Armor, damaging important energy transmission modules, and even the monitor eyes on its head dimmed, looking completely unable to continue fighting.

"Big Brother!" Penny shouted excitedly, then prepared to do what was mentioned in their agreement—protecting the other with her life!

"Close combat is my range!" Bora roared, and her second curved blade stabbed towards the core of the Green Demon Armor. After the previous fight, she was certain that was where the mecha pilot was located.

Just then, Bora heard a voice.

"HenShin!"

Accompanied by Eller's soft shout, a green light burst from the Green Demon Armor.

[Gamma Monster! Ready! Start Battle!]

As the cold mechanical voice fell, the Green Demon Armor shattered into pieces and exploded. A fist broke free and collided with Bora's curved blade, emitting a metallic roar.

Bora's face changed as she looked at the green light emanating from the gauntlet.

"Do you like the feeling of hitting the BOSS into its second phase?" Eller chuckled mockingly.
