Chapter 171 - Chapter 171: Meruem vs. Frieza

"Let me show you my true power. I was only using ten percent just now. Your strength did surprise me a little, but thirty percent is more than enough to deal with you." Frieza calmly raised three fingers at the already-transformed Super Saiyan Goku as he spoke.

This Frieza was no longer the one from the original with only 120 million in battle power. Now he was a super Frieza whose power exceeded 800 million.

Even at just thirty percent, his battle power reached 240 million. Goku's growth was tremendous too, but even as a Super Saiyan he was only close to that 240 million mark.

"You look confident, Frieza. But I'll force you to use your full power!" Golden aura flared around Goku like something tangible. As a Super Saiyan, he was ready to go all out and give Frieza a lesson he wouldn't forget.

"Didn't expect that guy Goku to actually reach Super Saiyan after all, main body. But this Frieza is way stronger than in the original. Even though Goku's stronger than in the original too, he still can't compare to this Frieza. You see it too, right? Frieza wasn't lying. This universe is chaos—there's even a Frieza at this level. Close to Sixteen's tier. Even the Supreme Kai of this world wouldn't dare claim a sure win. No wonder Frieza's rampaged across the universe for so many years," Musashi said, jerking his chin toward the sky where purple and gold auras kept colliding.

"Why do you think my task is to take out Frieza and not Cooler? In the Dragon Ball world, beyond raw power I haven't gained much in special abilities. This world's mainstream is strength, not magic. Even so, I'm several times stronger than when I first arrived. Heh. Hard to imagine what other world could even qualify to receive me after I leave the Dragon Ball plane. Curious, really—but I'll have to finish Frieza first," Meruem said.

Not to mention Meruem with battle power in the hundreds of millions—even the Chimera Ant elites under him weren't something most other worlds could withstand.

They were high-level warriors with power in the thousands or even tens of thousands. In terms of brute force and destructive power, they'd rank near the top in most worlds.

In the Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan world Meruem visited before, a warrior with power over ten thousand could rival or surpass a great yokai.

If two elite members fused, even Nura Rikuo, the third heir of the Nura clan, might not come away with much against them.

And that guy is a plane protagonist favored by the will of the universe.

"Goku's going to lose, main body. Time for you to step in," Musashi said, seeing that, although Goku was still fighting Frieza to a draw on the surface, his offense had clearly faltered compared to before.

Sure enough, seizing a gap in Goku's attack, Frieza quietly drove a fist into his back.

Goku plummeted straight down like a meteor, slamming into the ground and carving out a massive crater like a small impact site.

"Heh-heh. Die!" Frieza gave no quarter and fired a ki blast straight down over Goku.

A mushroom cloud like a nuclear explosion rose into the sky.

Goku lay in the crater, covered in blood, his condition unknown.

"Goku!" Piccolo braced himself against a rock and struggled to stand. Though his chest wound was stabilized, his stamina was mostly spent. He no longer had the energy to fight.

"Kakarot… even a Super Saiyan isn't Frieza's match? What level has he reached now? That was only thirty percent… damn it!" Vegeta hammered the ground from where he leaned against a boulder, seething with unwillingness.

Even if he recovered his stamina and ki now, there was no way he could face this Frieza. The gap in tier was simply too great.

Still—so unwilling!

"Kakarot." A figure everyone had overlooked flashed toward the crater where Goku lay.

But just a few meters from the rim, a purple-red beam punched through his body, and he collapsed on the edge.

"Well? Still here after all, Raditz—the one who tags along behind Vegeta. I thought you'd run away in fear already. All the better—I'll finish you off too." Smoke curled from Frieza's outstretched fingertip. That beam had clearly been his.

Frieza drifted down from the air and came to stand over Raditz.

He ground a heel into Raditz's head, pinning it deep into the ground.

His tail lashed Raditz again and again, shattering his armor with each strike. New gashes bloomed across his body at a speed visible to the naked eye.

"Funny—you've actually grown in power too. If I remember right, you were barely on par with my grunts. Whatever. Even now, to me you're nothing but an ant. If I feel like it, I can crush you whenever I want. O-ho-ho-ho."

"What terrifying power… So this is the monster Kakarot was fighting just now. Senzu… one left. If I can just get it to Kakarot, maybe there's still hope." Though gravely injured, Raditz hadn't lost consciousness completely. He knew their only hope of beating Frieza was Goku.

"Excuse me, you over there—the bald one." Just as Frieza was about to finish Raditz, a voice sounded behind him.

"Who's there?" Frieza turned, astonished, toward the source of the voice—and saw Meruem.

He hadn't expected anyone to approach him at a time like this, and that "bald one" was clearly a jab. It annoyed him.

"Mind lifting your hoof off my subordinate's head?" Meruem squinted and smiled at Frieza.

"Subordinate? You mean Raditz? Since when is Raditz—wait. I heard Vegeta and the others defected to those damned ants. I was just wondering why I hadn't seen them. If I'm not wrong, you're their king, aren't you?" In the anime Frieza could seem brainless, but to sit as emperor of the universe, brute force alone would make you at most a big bad.

The fact that he built a vast power base said plenty about his intelligence.

"If by 'king of the Chimera Ants' you mean me, then yes," Meruem admitted without hesitation.

"That waste Cooler—you killed him, didn't you?" Frieza's eyes grew colder by the second. The killing intent rolling off him was palpable even to ordinary people.

If any ordinary person were actually here, that killing intent alone would scare them to death.

Frieza couldn't be compared to the likes of Orochimaru. Orochimaru's killing aura might break a normal person—but Frieza? At most, Orochimaru had slaughtered a village, maybe a few thousand or, at most, tens of thousands.

Frieza? The number who died when he casually wiped out Planet Vegeta alone is beyond counting. Those who perished by his hand number in the hundreds of billions, if not trillions. The difference is incomparable. "You mean the Frost Demon who looks seventy or eighty percent like you? If it's him, then yes, I killed him," Meruem went on, deliberately drawing aggro.

"And the one who sent his men to Namek to disrupt my Dragon Ball hunt and wiped out my elite troops—that order came from you as well?" Frieza's face twisted with malice. He could strike any moment.

"Mm, while the order wasn't directly from me, in a sense it was on my say-so," Meruem said. He meant Musashi—but since Musashi was his avatar, it was fair to count it as his order.

"Then die!" As expected, the moment Meruem owned every deed, Frieza attacked.

A pitch-black, crackling sphere shot toward Meruem.

One of Frieza's strongest finishers: the Planet-Destroying Bomb.

But Meruem's reaction surprised him. By rights, the best answer to this would be to dodge—or counter with a ki blast.

Meruem extended both hands instead and caught the black sphere—charged with the will to annihilate heaven and earth—with sheer flesh and blood.

"Dangerous, dangerous. Don't toss around moves this dangerous so casually."
