Chapter 52 - A nervous smile, Chapter 52

Brian stood beside Faris, the old merchant inside the room full of paper work, Faris's fingers tapped the table repeatably

"So, you know nothing about how our clients were murdered, how were they caught?" said Faris

"I know, nothing about it, ser" replied Bairen

"I just can't wrap my finger around it, all of the people who came to me wishing to flee got caught at once, just a day after I had a paper with their names in the table open to the working eyes" said Faris

"You don't think it is possible for me to memorize all of the names; how many were they again?" said Bairen

"19, there was 19 names on the paper on my desk" said Faris

"I can't possibly remember 19 names in an instant, I can't even read that fast, and I was with you the whole day before they were caught, when was I able to write down the names down reporting them!" said Bairen explaining himself

"Sigh… the problem is, you do have a point, but how did it happen, the timing just, doesn't work" said Faris

"Did the thought never cross your mind? that one of them reported the rest seeking some privilege with the king?" said Bairen

"Self-report? But all 19 were killed" said Faris

"All 19 that did come to you, there might've been more who did not do so" said Bairen

"But why didn't they report us as well?" asked Faris

"They are sending us their gold, so we can make them more, with us gone, there won't be someone who does so" said Bairen

"That… does make some sense, to be honest" replied Faris "Sigh… I am sorry, for accusing you, Bairen, its just, so stressful, to do all this paper work with this weak body of mine, and how the economy is collapsing"

"I apologies" Faris finished his talk bowing his head

"Oh no, no, no, don't do that," said Bairen stopping him from bowing his head" I know how hard it can be, I saw how worried you were the whole time, that is why I wished to help you"

"Is their anyway I can repay you," said Faris

"I am not really a guy of material life, hmm… all I want, is just to stay at work, this is where I feel, alive" said Bairen his eyes sparkled light as he stared the grounds bellow

"You're really dedicated to this, but working the holidays is forbidden" replied Faris

"I know a way to manage myself through them don't you worry" replied Bairen

Faris smiled faintly hearing him say so, he then proceeded to talk saying

"So? What do we do now?"

"Hmm?" Bairen was confused

"You said you wanted more work, didn't you?!, well, I have enough weight on my shoulders to give each person in the capital his part, I think you might be able to hand some of it" said Faris

Bairen smiled back at him and said, "well let's start, with our supplies from the outside"

"What do you mean?" asked Faris

"You know, the king has declared an increase in taxes, both in and out the capital" said Bairen

"Oh yes, you did find me thinking about such, do you have an idea?" said Faris

"I wouldn't have spoken up if I did not" said Bairen

"And??" asked Faris

"Well, lets just, not bring them here?" said Bairen

"What? And how will we make profits?" said Faris

"If they do cross the doors, all that we will make is sweat and tears out of them" said Bairen

"Bairen, you know well that I decided not to leave my country in times of need, this topic is one that we discussed long ago" said Faris

"This is not what I meant" said Bairen as Faris looked up at him "If we sell them in the big market, and then bring them here, we will avoid the tax of entering the capita alongside the one about selling inside of it"

"We will bring the gold costing us fewer carriages in wish we shall be able to afford more guards, that is in case any bandits cross our way, wish wouldn't make a difference because they would've stolen any goods as well" said Bairen "I believe there is no law against such is their?"

"Bairen… I sometimes think you might be a demon" said Faris as Bairen laughed it off

"No really, I just can't comprehend it, how do you come up with all of these ideas, you must have a little devil by your ear or something" said Faris

"Come on, you're embarrassing me, I just seek us the best, nothing more, nothing less" said Bairen

"Well, this isn't the best, this is the very top, you buddy, went through the roof," said Faris "You even surpassed me"

"No, I can never do such a thing, you've built all of this from scratch, I was just lucky enough to get all of this help from you" said Bairen

"Now, lets stop the compliments" Bairen continued "What is the next problem of ours?"

"Well, we've got to deal with our low findings" said Faris

"Why? I believe none of the nobles took theirs out, plus their families were, brutally, executed alongside them" said Bairen

"Even so, whatever they held belongs to the king now, even though he did not ask for it" said Faris

"But there is no law as such, and the king doesn't seem to care much" said Bairen

"Even so, it is the right thing to do, better be safe from his anger" replied Faris

"No like really, he doesn't care—" said Bairen before he was cut by Faris who said

"Even so, we still need to—" Faris was cut by Bairen who spoke saying

"He didn't even take the houses"

"What, ?!" said Faris

"As I said, more then 19 houses were left untouched "said Bairen

"And the belongings?!" said Faris

"Still there, well, most of them" replied Bairen

"What do you mean most of them?" asked Faris

"I got info the other day that some thieves went taking full hands out with them" said Bairen

"What?!! And no guard moved? What about the security the morals" said Faris

"I think the noble houses might have some hands in it" replied Bairen

Faris seemed tried from all of this leaning his head forward

"You seem to be lacking so much info ser" said Bairen

"Forgive me, as you know, it was tuff to deal with all the stress these days" said Faris

"Well, I will leave you to it, I myself got to take some rest every now and then" said Bairen

"You are dismissed, go have some fun" said Faris as Bairen went out the door replying "I will be sure to"

Going downstairs he was greeted by women and men, all of them were of high value, merchants from all status filled the lower sectors of this place

He greeted each of them back with a smile, he seemed pretty popular

Some tried to take some time of him offering deals wishing some sponsorship, but he declined gently as he entered his dark room backing the door closed

His sighed removing the smile off of his face, his gaze went cold as he went with one hand into the sleeve of another

Pulling out a paper attached to a rubber rope that kept it invisible and hidden inside

Cutting it off he split them apart throwing on in the trash and the other out the window

Going to the mirror he washed his face with could water, he stared his dripping hair as a nervous smile appeared uncontrollably, he giggled to himself in the dark as the moon towered the capital
