When Benjamin finally got a good look at her face, he was floored.

Ava thought Benjamin was about to do something terrible to her, and her heart raced with fear.
But when she heard his words, she was confused. A thief? How could she be a thief in her own house? He must be the thief!
Ava found the whole situation bizarre, but being completely exposed in front of this guy made her face burn with embarrassment.

"Stop acting dumb. You better leave now, or else I..." Ava started off strong, but being alone with a guy, she softened her tone for her own safety. "I can let what happened slide, but please just go now!"
Ava held back her anger, reminding herself that he had saved her life before. If this jerk pushed his luck, she'd call the cops in a heartbeat.
"First, tell me if this is 188 Royal Court!" Benjamin was now a bit unsure. If she said it wasn't, he'd bail immediately. It'd be way too embarrassing if word got out.
"Yes! What the hell do you want?" Ava was getting fed up. This guy seemed all proper but turned out to be a total sleaze. She had even felt bad for not thanking him in person.
Benjamin was about to bolt, but this was definitely 188 Royal Court. So why was this chick claiming it was her place?
"I should be asking you what you want. This is my house. Get your facts straight before you start yapping!" If she wasn't a woman, Benjamin would've kicked her out already.
Ava laughed angrily, "Your house?"
Then, Ava took a good look at Benjamin's handsome face, finding it oddly familiar. She remembered something Daniel had told her: he had a son, but they hadn't talked in years because of some drama. If this guy was saying this was his house, he might be that son.
Even though Ava and Daniel were married, they hadn't gotten close. The idea that this guy might be Daniel's son made her blush. Wouldn't that make her his stepmom?
"Are you Benjamin?"
Ava asked, testing the waters. Hearing his name from her, Benjamin felt something was off and nodded, " Who are you?"
If she knew his name, she had to know him, even if she didn't recognize him right away.
Ava gave Benjamin a sly smile and said, "I'm your stepmom!"
Benjamin was floored. He couldn't believe the woman in front of him, who was barely older than him, was his stepmom. He'd been abroad for years and barely talked to Daniel. He had no clue Daniel had found him a stepmom.
If she really was his stepmom, then what just happened was a massive screw-up.
Benjamin didn't dare think further and quickly looked away, avoiding eye contact with the woman who was his stepmom.
"Benjamin, go outside. I need to get dressed!"
Ava noticed Benjamin's awkwardness upon realizing she was his stepmom and said it on purpose.
