I sit in the chair beside her bed, sinking into it with a heavy sigh as I take in her unmoving form.
Thea said it was good to talk to her. That she could hear, even if she couldn't respond.
Her sisters were here yesterday. They're still in the city, probably staying the night again. They didn't bother hiding their anger at me, but in the end… they just cried. All of us did, in our own ways.
Nothing new has hit the media except the official statement about the "family tragedy." The whole world only knows that the Rassais family is in mourning.
But the truth, the real destruction, only the remaining six ruling families know the details.
I lean forward, elbows resting on my knees, and let my eyes linger on her face.
"Abigail."
My voice cracks. "I… I know I've apologized a thousand times. And I know it's not enough. It can't ever be enough."
I swallow, forcing myself to say the words even though they scrape at me.
