~Darius's POV~
Watching Abigail sleep the entire morning after several rounds in the bathroom is a pleasant sight.
I've been thinking about how to tell her that I found her biological father… and that I've already arranged a meeting with her brother. A meeting I want her to attend.
My phone rings. Valentin. Of course. He's probably calling about the Rulers' Gala that's been in the works for weeks and is somehow approaching faster than expected.
I answer. "Hey."
"I just survived an assassination," he says immediately, his breath heavy.
"What?" I sit up straighter. "Who on earth would be stupid enough to try to assassinate you?"
"She's actually extremely hot. Like blue-black hair, soft skin… God, her ass."
I pinch the bridge of my nose. "Val."
"Yes, a woman tried to assassinate me. She stabbed me. I'm in the hospital right now. Now I finally understand how you felt that day."
My eye twitches. "Are you going to live?"
