Matthew Atkinson
London
Just as his father, William Atkinson, was about to continue verbally attacking him, his mother's appearance interrupted him.
"William, say less..."
His mother's eyes were still red.
She looked at her son, her gaze filled with disappointment, but more than that, worry and heartache.
"Say less?"
William retorted angrily, "Do you know that when the Supernatural Realm opens next month, your son will be forcibly teleported in, and with the trash power he fused with, he will very likely die in there?"
"Scolding him is the least of it. I wish I could beat him to death! At least if he dies here, I can collect his body, but if he dies in the Supernatural Realm, I won't even see a corpse..."
As he spoke, William's tone was filled with sorrow.
And the "Supernatural Realm" he mentioned was what everyone referred to as the land of the supernatural.
In fact, the Supernatural Realm was extremely dangerous, and it had another name, called "Land of Death"!
Because within the Supernatural Realm, there were many powerful monsters, deathly missions, traps, and many more bizarre things.
The high-level monsters were the embodiment of chaos, and merely looking directly at them could instantly cause severe damage to a normal person's mind, turning them insane or into an idiot!
Without a strong enough ability or strength, entering the Supernatural Realm was a near-certain death.
The Supernatural Realm opened once every month on the first day of the month.
Once it opened, rookie supernatural individuals, those in the first ten layers, would be forcibly teleported into the Supernatural Realm to join an adventure. Veterans who have successfully completed the tenth layer could participate in the following layers at their own request.
If they could accomplish their mission and successfully return alive, they would receive rewards from the Supernatural Realm and become stronger after every layer.
This was also the primary channel for the vast majority of supernatural individuals to enhance their abilities.
Can they retire?
Of course!
However, they must first pass through the first ten layers of the Supernatural Realm.
The first ten layers of the Supernatural Realm are mandatory. After successfully navigating the ten layers, supernatural individuals gain freedom and can independently choose whether to participate in the next Supernatural Realm adventure.
...
William's words instantly broke his wife's psychological defense, causing Matthew's mother, Serena Atkinson, to cry again.
Matthew was their only son!
How could they not be sad when their son, whom they had painstakingly raised, was about to face a situation where survival was nearly impossible?
Serena's crying also affected William.
Although William didn't cry, he closed his eyes and was unable to speak anymore.
Looking closely, one could see his hands trembling uncontrollably.
Seeing this, Matthew knew he should do something...
"Dad, Mom, don't worry!"
He deliberately showed a confident smile and said, "In your eyes, am I, your son, really that foolish? Natalie and I aren't even married, how could I just give away such a precious and rare Logia Devil Fruit for nothing?"
Surprisingly.
His behavior really captured his parents' attention.
Seeing Matthew's confident smile, the couple was somewhat surprised and uncertain.
His mother immediately asked, "What do you mean, Matthew? Explain yourself clearly. Was there another reason for that... thing you did?"
William also stared intently at his son, waiting for his answer.
"Actually, for the past month, I've been having the same dream every night..."
Matthew began to weave his tale, adding everything from foreseeing the future in dreams to receiving guidance from divine beings in the Holy Land!
He had to deceive them.
If he chose to tell the truth and told his parents he was actually a transmigrator, it would be hard to say how his parents would see him or if they could accept him...
Matthew didn't want to test human nature; deception was the best course of action.
"...All signs prove that this Kryptonian Bloodline is not simple, and isn't the rule in the Holy Land that the more powerful the Opportunity, the rarer it is? That's why I decided to take a gamble! It wasn't really because of some bullshit love!"
When Matthew finished speaking, the old couple looked at each other, finding it somewhat... hard to accept.
His parents were smart people and certainly wouldn't be fooled so easily.
"So? You've fused with it now. Have you discovered anything powerful?" William asked, his face full of disbelief.
Matthew said, "I just fused with it. How could it be that fast? Let's wait a few months and see!"
He didn't want to hide things from his parents, but the secret that Kryptonians got stronger by basking in the sun was too unbelievable.
Most importantly, it wasn't easy to explain!
Even if his parents believed him and asked how he knew, Matthew would struggle to explain.
It would be more convincing to wait until he had concrete results before showing them to his parents.
In addition, in Matthew's memories, his father, William, liked to talk nonsense when drunk and would spill everything, which his mother had argued with him about many times.
Although William had intended to change and now drank less, Matthew still had to be cautious.
The secret that Kryptonians got stronger by basking in the sun was of utmost importance, and it was better for him to keep this secret for now.
He knew the meaning of "what is done in secret succeeds, what is revealed fails."
Being able to tell his parents this much, to stop them from worrying, already showed how much he trusted them.
There was another critical point!
Matthew had previously checked on his phone, and among the two instances of Kryptonian Bloodline Cards that had appeared in the Holy Land's history, one person had died early in the Supernatural Realm.
The second person, however, had excellent luck and actually managed to survive ten trips to the Supernatural Realm without dying and remains alive to this day.
Although that person was already over eighty years old and a long time had passed since he retired, Matthew was still wary of him.
He didn't want a second Kryptonian powerhouse to appear on this planet!
...
At this moment, his mother, Serena, was almost persuaded by Matthew.
She was a woman, more emotional, not to mention that Matthew was her son, a family member she trusted unconditionally.
In contrast, William was much more rational and not as easily fooled by Matthew.
"Wait a few months? Wait for hell! What do you think the Supernatural Realm is..."
Before he could finish speaking.
The excited voice of Matthew's uncle suddenly came from outside the door.
"Brother! Brother! Come out quickly, there's good news!!"
The three people in the room were startled.
William glared at Matthew, then quickly walked out.
Serena and Matthew were also curious about the good news and quickly followed to see.
In the courtyard, Mathew's uncle, "Lucas Atkinson," was chatting with an unfamiliar middle-aged man. Seeing his brother come out, his uncle immediately introduced the man:
"Brother, this Mr. Miller is a special recruitment officer from the admissions office of the University of Oxford..."
"Hello, welcome, Mr. Miller..."
Hearing the name of the University of Oxford, William didn't dare to be negligent and immediately stepped forward to shake hands with the other party.
"May I ask why Mr. Miller is here?"
"Oh! I'm here to deliver an admission letter."
The middle-aged man surnamed Miller said, "On behalf of the University of Oxford, I am informing your son, Matthew Atkinson, that he has been admitted to our school. Please have Matthew prepare as soon as possible and register at the University of Oxford within four days."
Upon hearing this, the Matthew family of three was taken aback.
William couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Miller, could there be a mistake? My son's power... shouldn't meet your school's standards."
The University of Oxford was among the world's best Supernatural Universities, ranked among the top ten. It has a strong faculty and staff, and has graduated many renowned powerhouses, making it a nationally famous school.
The admission requirements for such a prestigious school were naturally much higher than those of ordinary schools.
Matthew's Kryptonian Bloodline power didn't seem to meet the University of Oxford's requirements in any way.
"No mistake!"
Mr. Miller glanced at Matthew, who was standing behind, before explaining the reason.
"Mr. Atkinson, you must already know about what happened at your son's school previously."
"After Matthew obtained the Flame-Flame Fruit, he gave it to Natalie Russell, who needed it more. Personally, I greatly admire student Matthew's magnanimity and generosity!"
"Of course, the real reason we decided to accept Matthew was because of Natalie Russell!"
"After Matthew left, Natalie Russell was sought after by various universities. Facing the offers from different schools, Miss Russell ignored them and only made one request!"
"She requested that she and student Matthew must attend the same university!!"
"And our University of Oxford has agreed to Miss Russell's request..."
