Matthew Atkinson & Natalie Russell
Second Layer of the Supernatural Realm
Matthew brought Natalie to the western part of the city.
The two did not try to use the bell again to see if they could attract the monster.
Because they both knew it was likely to be useless.
Since the monsters here have a certain level of intelligence and have already been terrified of being killed, the possibility of them being fooled again was extremely slim.
Matthew chose a large house as a temporary resting place.
The reason for choosing this location was that this house has a garden.
Although the flowers and plants had long since withered and the garden was bare, some of the garden's furnishings, such as the birdhouse and pergola, remained.
With the bright moonlight, the scenery looked quite nice.
Most importantly, this house was surrounded by low-rise residential buildings, many of which had collapsed due to years of neglect, making it difficult to hide.
Natalie immediately saw through Matthew's intention.
"Matthew, you chose this place. Are you waiting for those people to come knocking on our door?"
Matthew smiled and said, "After we leave that mansion, they will definitely check the situation. When they see that we have killed so many monsters and accumulated a lot of mission progress, do you think they will be able to resist?"
"So, no matter where we are, as long as they are tempted, they will come knocking on our door."
"Since we're destined to fight, I'll definitely choose a terrain that's advantageous to us."
These words left Natalie speechless. But the girl knew that what Matthew said made a lot of sense.
"Of course, it would be even better if they didn't bother us!"
...
Matthew's guess was absolutely correct.
Not long after he and Natalie left, someone couldn't resist and ran to the mansion to check on the situation.
The first team to check the situation was Tom Hades's team.
When the four of them entered the north courtyard and saw the scene inside, which resembled a massacre scene, they were immediately startled.
"Holy moly! Just how many monsters did they kill?"
"This is incredible."
"Damn it! I want to know how they did this?"
Apart from Captain Tom, the other three all cried out in surprise.
The muscular guy, in particular, was the most exaggerated, constantly making all sorts of strange noises.
After some investigation, they realized they had been misled by the scene Matthew had arranged and came to a self-righteous judgment.
"I think I've found the answer!"
A young white man pointed to the entrance of the training ground and analyzed in a serious tone. "This strange building has very sturdy outer walls. Those two must have been hiding inside, using the terrain to kill so many monsters!"
"Look over here, guys. These monsters all have burn marks on their bodies. It must be Russell's handiwork."
The muscular man and another fat man nodded repeatedly.
Only Captain Tom remained silent.
This guy seemed quiet and reserved.
"Judging from these corpses at the scene, they must have killed at least a thousand monsters?"
The muscular man's eyes lit up as he said this. "If we can kill them and seize their mission progress, even if it's only half, it will be a huge success!"
"At least it will allow us to obtain a mission rating exceeding S-Grade!"
Exceeding S-Grade?
That would be SS-Grade, or even perfect SSS-Grade.
When these words were spoken, the young-looking man and the fat man became agitated.
Even Captain Tom was tempted.
However, Captain Tom was more rational and said, "That woman was able to kill so many monsters, which means she's stronger than we thought. We need help to deal with her!"
"Captain Tom, I have a different opinion," the young-looking man said. "Precisely because they have killed so many monsters, their physical strength and energy must be extremely depleted. Perhaps they are at their weakest moment right now."
Tom's face turned cold, and he said bluntly, "Idiot! Open your eyes and look carefully. There are thousands of monster corpses here. Do you think they could kill so many monsters in a short time without any means of replenishing their strength and energy?"
That made a lot of sense.
As freshmen, everyone knew that even killing thousands of pigs required unimaginable physical exertion.
Among the supernatural items, there were indeed those that could replenish energy when consumed by supernatural individuals within a short period of time.
Therefore, Captain Tom guessed that Natalie Russell must have similar supplementary equipment to help them complete such a feat.
The young-looking man looked embarrassed and dared not refute.
On the one hand, he knew that what the captain said made sense.
Also, he was a little afraid of Tom...
Seeing the awkward atmosphere, the muscular man pointed outside and said, "There are a lot of freshmen outside right now. We can promise them some benefits and get those idiots to help us kill that Russell!"
This suggestion was relatively safe.
But Captain Tom, being more composed, sensed that Natalie Russell was no ordinary person, so he said, "This is the last option!"
The three teammates were all stunned.
The muscular man immediately asked, "Tom, what do we do now?"
"Let's go hunt monsters first!" Tom said. "If we can kill enough monsters, we'll abandon our plan to hunt Russell."
"Why?" the muscular man asked, puzzled. "The risk of hunting enough monsters is no less than that of hunting that woman."
Tom said calmly, "Because my intuition tells me that Russell is more dangerous than we think!"
...
Time always slips away unnoticed.
Eight hours passed quickly.
Including the previous hour, there was only one hour left before the mission ended.
In a house in the west of the city, Matthew looked around but still couldn't find anyone, and his expression was a little puzzled.
Upon seeing this, Natalie smiled slightly.
"They probably won't come." The girl didn't want those people to come and die if possible.
Because that would stain her and Matthew's hands with blood.
"Natalie, you underestimate human greed!"
Matthew shook his head and said, "We can't draw such a conclusion until the very last moment."
Natalie thought for a moment and said, "Although you disguised the scene before, there are still many suspicious points. Perhaps they were frightened?"
Matthew smiled and said, "People are prone to making wrong judgments when influenced by greed. And... Natalie, don't forget, the moon in the sky has also been influencing us."
"Even if they noticed something amiss, they might still choose to take the risk for the sake of mission evaluation."
"I still stand by my opinion, unless they've killed enough monsters, they will definitely come!"
...
At the same time.
Dozens of supernatural individuals were gathered in a house a few hundred meters away from the mansion.
Their target in gathering here was Matthew and Natalie!
